Thumbs down Water Ingress

I know this has been brought up before in many threads (myself included) but has anyone had a final solution from their stealer to the water ingress into the boot lid problem.

My GPS has been back to the stealer 5 times since new (07 Plate) to resolve just this problem, forget about all the others that are STILL outstanding, and it still pi**es water over the parcel shelf when it has been raining and I open the boot.

One very frustrated GPS owner, still waiting for his wheels to be replaced as they have all delaminated. Despite the fact that the stealer has had authorisation to replace, they are still stalling over it. Sterling work Research Garage Nuneaton!

Re: Water Ingress

Our punto has been in twice and had the the area around the rear wiper sealed apparently.

It still throws a puddle of water at you when the boot is opened.

I give up to be honest, will just live with it.

I'm not planning to own it past the 3 years/warranty period anyway.

I just don't trust the build quality of the Puntos enough

Now the panda, that's a different story, much better built in my opinion... We've had two panda's now.

Re: Water Ingress

After having mine back to Research a number of times for water ingress to tailgate i have now offically given up. Will only have the car for at the most two years and simply cant be bothered dealing with them anymore. I would suggest that if you want it fixing try another dealer as Research seem unable to fix any of the usual faults on GP,s if mine is anything to go by.

DONE EM ALL and it still fills up. After a heavy nights rain i can hear it sloshing about inside the tailgate. After the rain we had the other night the bonnet did the same thing, opened it and water pi**ed all over the engine. Got it coming out of both ends now, LOL

Also check its not getting in round the badge fixing on the tailgate

Sorry to sound dumb. Do you mean the led lights on the rear spoiler? Mine has been back to dealer a couple times now. The last time they repostioned the back screen and it was fine for about two months. now it's back to pissing out of the bump stops again. Surely it won't take long for the tail gate to start corroding from inside out if this keeps on. Booked in next week to dealers, fingers crossed.

Re: Water Ingress

Hi

Can you keep us posted on how you get on, i got the impression that my local dealer cannot do anything else to cure mine.

It's been in twice now and still holds the water.

Re: Water Ingress

They sealed the area round the wiper today in an effort to stop the leaky tail gate. I have my doubts but we'll just have to wait and see.
The tech told me that "the rear seal is not really meant to stop water from entering the hatch. It's why the bump stops have holes in them to let the water run out " he said. " Fiat have made them this way" he continued. " The door seals too are meant to let water leave from holes in the bottom." News to me. I think Fiat are trying to reclaim thier award for fastest rotting bodywork if you listen to that. Surely they can't be serious *cough* design fault *cough*.

Re: Water Ingress

ok i might be speaking out of turn here but on older cars anyways yes the drain holes on doors were just that as it was accpepted there would be some leakage due to the window seals as obviously they are not fixed like a sealed rear hatch window for example so can over time pass some water thru the wndow rubbers. The drain holes were normally positioned out side the actual main door seal so the water ran away out the bottom only hassles cames when the holes got blocked and water built up inside the door itself. anyways point being he may be correct witht he door seals and as long as the drain outboard of the door seal it should never be an issue, where as the boot has a fixed window and the water in my case anyways is trapped as it can olny be release when i open the boot, so yes i agree this appears to be a design fault and hope my dealer can fix it as soon as i have time to get it booked in.

Question Re: Water Ingress

After Sales Manager at my Dealer tells me water is getting in around high level brake light?, I intend to ask them to have a look at second service due soon.
Slightly different subject, a couple of early threads in this topic seem to be a little less than inspired by Research Garage, is this the same garage which is an Abarth dealership?.
It seems to me that the likely owners of Abarth's will be even more car focused - perhaps even more so than most of us on this forum and maybe will demand even more from their "Specialist" Abarth Dealership.
Am I being too cynical in expressing the opinion that Fiat have awarded Abarth Dealerships to the chrome and smokied glass dealerships which maybe sometimes don't always look after customers in the best possible way which could result in some serious s*** flying around when the arguments start.???

Re: Water Ingress

It always helps if the manufacturer puts the drain holes at the bottom. Is it really that difficult to engineer?
