| Engine noise between 1500 and 2000 in 2nd gear Hi everyone, I have a 1.3 mtj 90cv sport with 2000 kms... I'm really enjoying this car (nice drive and good looking) but there some problems that are concerning me: 1- Engine very noisy between 1500-2000 rpm in 2nd gear when increasing smothly the throtle (pinking?). Only happens after the engine is warm. 2- Strange tablier noise (tic tic tic) in the passenger side only at higher speeds like 50 above or so (seams like cables are losse and are hitting against metal ...could the air speed do this?) 3- Poor central air flow if windscreen or feet channels active (did read something about this in the forum...but is this a problem or its normal?) 4- Vibrations in doors and console if slowdown speed in rough roads what should be my aproach to these problems...the one that is concerning me more is the 1st! Thanks

Hi Maxupixu, Sorry, can't help you with the engine noise between 1500 and 2000 rpm. The engine has max. torque at 1750 so maybe you are just hearing combustion within this range. Do diesel engines pink? The central vents don't produce much air when it is also directed towards the footwells. Door catches can become loose and this might be causing the noise you are hearing. One of the experts has suggested applying insulating tape to the door catches in order to tighten them up and identify / eliminate the source of the noise. Good luck!

| Re: Engine noise between 1500 and 2000 in 2nd gear Hi, thanks for the reply The engine noise sounds like an old diesel truck (very noisy) i may say its starts a little before 1500 and persists until 2000 (a little more). The weird thing it only happens in 2nd gear and after the engine its running for some time... while engine isn't warm it runs with very smoth, very regular noise I may say that the central air flow is the same if both windscreen and feet channels are enabled or one of them is enabled! Door catches...i will check it! Noises are always very annoying specially if we dont know were do they exactly come from... i was planning to buy some foam to isolate plastics from the doors, this sould solve the problems in the doors. In main console i fill this task will not be easy.

| Re: Engine noise between 1500 and 2000 in 2nd gear Is this your first diesel? The 1.3 MJ 90 was mine. I noticed a bit of clatter in the lower gears but it was nothing compared with my MJ Sporting - which I also call "The Tractor"! I think I am right in saying that the 1.3 uses a chain-driven camshaft - rather than a belt. Is it possible that the chain is the source of the noise? I think we have to accept that diesels will never be as quiet as petrol-engined cars. At higher speeds I expect you find your Multijet quiet and refined - as road and wind noise become more significant than rumblings from the engine. The 1.3 engine is a little gem. Enjoy it in the knowledge that bigger diesels sound much worse!
