do sporting m-jets have any form of esp?

ok maybe a stupid question but would an 06 plate sporting m-jet have any form of esp?
the traction control works the hill holder fuction works just wondered if these were tied into an esp type system at all?
and if so how do i check its operating correctly before my warranty expires!

cheers

Yes the m-jet sporting has it all as standard. best thing to do is find a nice big open round about in the wet and enter it a bit faster than usual and dump the power on mid bend the ASR / ESP light should illuminate / flash and throttle back until your wheels find grip again and your out of the partial slide.

Just be bloody careful make sure theres no other cars about etc .

i thought that ESP was standard on all GP sportings!! mine has, so if your m-jet doesn't then theres something wrong!!

If there were any faults in the ESP system you'd have the ESP, and probably ABS, warning lights on constantly.

IT was an option on the early 1.4 16v sportings. Always been standard on mjets and tjets.

Are you sure you're talking about esp and not traction control?

er....this is gonna sound really daft, but whats the difference between ESP, traction control, and slip diff?

coz i thought the three of them did the same sort of thing!

im a bit daft when it comes to mechanics, so don't laugh too hard!!

Traction control - Used to stop the wheels spinning on takeoff etc to give more striaight line grip (piggybacked onto abs)

ESP - Stability control usually applying brakes to certain sides of the car to steady the vehicle when going round corners (i'm almost sure this is how esp works?)

Limited slip diff (LSD) - helps with grip in cornering by giving different rotational freedom to each wheel.

Re: do sporting m-jets have any form of esp?

cheers, so instead of having limited slip diff, we have ESP that kind of does the same thing, but does it in a different way with brakes, instead of kicking in with different wheel speeds to get grip back?

and do we not have a sort of traction control eith ASR? coz i thought there was something called EBD to stop the car from spinning??

Re: do sporting m-jets have any form of esp?

forget about the first bit coz i've realised it was a load of rubbish, the limited slip dif is a wheel orientated thing to stop losing grip in the first place, but the other two is to gain grip when you don't have it anyway? lol!!

Re: do sporting m-jets have any form of esp?

ok now i am confused i always thought ebd was electronic brake force distribution basically an improved version of abs? traction control is fairly obvious yeah the light flashes way when putting the boot in on greasy roads. and no as far as i am aware no gps have an lsd?

as i said am sure my abs and traction control works as does the hill holder function and i get the asr light illuminate on start up thengo out and only flicker on to stop wheel spin so i assume its all working ok
