Unhappy Air con not working

Good afternoon!
Does anyone know how long the air should last without needing a re gass?
Reason is mine has decided to pack up, and after a phone call to the Fiat garage they have told me it probably needs a re gas at a cost of £130.
Is there any way I can check if a re gas is needed, as I can get it done much cheper if that is all that needs doing.
The Fiat dealear has told me there is no way to check unless I pay for a re gas before they check if it has any faults which they will then fix under warranty.
Help from anyone who knows about this kind of stuff.
Cheers!

Wifes Corsa is nearly five years old, never had a re-gas, air con still ice cold. Dont think i would be paying for a re-gas before they have even looked at it.

£130.

Kwick fit do it for about £40 I think and only charge is the can make the system 10% cooler

The only way to tell is to get it linked upto one of the re-gaser's I think, which will do a gas level check, and pressure check, and will do an auto check of the system for leaks if there is low pressure or no gas

How often do you use air-con as it's recomended to run it for atleast 5-10 min a week to keep the system working and to stop rubber seals from cracking and causeing system leaks with often cost more than it's worth to fix

Jon.

Re: Air con not working

I used it fairly often certainly once a week at least! the garage say its not uncommon to need gassing after 2 years! mines only 18 months old.

Yes and no. I would have though it might not be as effective, hence the need for re-gassing, but I wouldn't have though it would be empty enough to stop it working compleatly and need regassing

Dave knows best, so if that's what he say's, that what I'd do (and I'm not being sarcastic).

Re: Air con not working

My GPS had to be re-gassed as the aircon was blowing warm. Thankfully mine was covered under warranty.

I had a 52 plate stilo and the aircon was blowing warm, had it checked by some guy who was mobile, he couldn't find any leaks so he re-gassed it. Two weeks later, warm again, got him out again, and this time he found a leaky pipe, it was the long one that runs from the pump, the one Fiat never stock, he fit the pipe, re-gassed and happy days, ice cold again.
