oil for 1.9mjtd

well ive read a few threads and im in a state of confused minds what to do. Dont want to put the wrong oil in the car as it'll effect my warrenty.

I've read a few threads on here about oils and what you guys have put in your GP's and see you put 10/40 or 10/30! But my manual states 5/40 and only says it should be synthetic.

So i went it to the fiat dealer to ask for some selenia, for the response. We dont use selenia; we only use shell in our garages and sell planet oil from the parts shop. and when i asked what grade he confirmed 5/40 but said it should be semi synthetic

now whats the difference between semi and fully synthetic. I take it its just how thick the oil is??

and after going round nearly every garage/motorfactors no one supplies the selenia. The only place i could find it was shop4parts. But it was like 50quid delivered for 5litres!

and although my cars only just had its first year service and dosent need a top up atm, i am off to germany in the next few weeks with a 3k+ round trip and want to take oil with me for tops.

i have now ended up with some comma 5/40 fully synthetic (which is made by esso) and has the ACEA A3 and B3/B4 grade that is recommend in the hand book?

is this ok or do i need to hunt down a semi? Which seems in possible to find round here?

Re: oil for 1.9mjtd

just been looking around online at other oils the only other 5w - 40 i found was shell helix which was fully synthetic also, is cheaper than the comma aswell only £25ish for 5litres.

The only 5w - 40 semi i can see is selenia and its even hard to find it avaliable online (shop4parts being the only place!)

mobil and castrol were both semi synthetic but 10w - 40

the question is do i go for the semi synthetic 10w - 40? or the fully synthetic 5w - 40

maybe this it one for T or anotha fiat tech?

please help me
