Running in: Grande Punto

Hey everyone,

I've recently ordered a new Punto, and im wondering how many miles should i run it in for? i looked in the manual and it didn't mention anything about it.

if anyone knows anything about this then it'd be much appreciated

Thanks a lot

Re: Running in: Grande Punto

most modern cars dont have a running in period however exercise a certain amount of caution in first 500miles (not rag it just yet!)

welcome to FF

Just dont rag it or labour it, make life easy for it and increase revs use gradually over time, check the fluids regularly and dont miss services.

Agreed about increasing revs slowly, when I got mine the dealers said to keep it under 4k for the first 700 miles. I dunno where they got that from tho

Re: Running in: Grande Punto

As in life your engine needs everything in moderation.
Don't redline the thing in every gear but at the same time don't drive like your driving miss daisy! Everyone says not to hammer it but surely trundling along cant be doing it much good either. When I got my T-Jet I went to work through the town to use plenty of gear changes but came home on the motorway to open the taps a bit. I did this for about 4 weeks and now the engine runs very smoothly, the gear changes are sharp and when I regress to acting like i'm 12 years old the power is there instantly. There are no leaks, creaks, funny noises, bits falling off, black smoke, white smoke or any other colour you can think of.

If using the power it was built to produce was such a bad thing then lets be honest. It wouldn't be difficult for Fiat or any other manufacturer to limit the revs and power for a certain number of miles. As I said before give it everything but in moderation, don't thrash it but don't plod along either.
