New GP Diesel Owner- any advice please?

Hi, just about to buy a 2006 GP 1.3 weasel with 10k miles. Never owned a Fiat before. Anything to be aware of, typical faults or problems? Reason for buying - it was cheap and diesel just hit £129.9 a litre here..

Re: New GP Diesel Owner- any advice please?

Too late, I'm committed to it. It was a steal from someone we know getting rid of a trade-in which would otherwise have gone to auction.. Besides, I live in an area which doesn't have a great selection of used cars and I'm certain I wouldn't have been able to find a 1.9. It's lively enough for old codgers like us and on the test drive when I was giving it a bit of stick all over the place, it averaged 56mpg.. I also like the cheap insurance and the £35 road tax.. My GTi days (Peugeot 206 1.9) were over 20 years ago..!
So, any points about the 1.3 diesel??
PS My other car is a Land Rover 90 TD5..

I think the steering and suspension are the weakest points. On a motorway make sure that the car changes direction when you turn the steering wheel! Drive it on a rough road and be happy that it doesn't thump excessively from underneath. Move the steering from side-to-side when stationary and you shouldn't hear any clonking noises.

Re: New GP Diesel Owner- any advice please?

Ive just brought my first Fiat -Grande 1.3 MJ same as yours and i must say its the best car ive ever driven so far (2 weeks). 07 reg 9000 miles 1 lady owner and mint condition all round. I got the Dynamic 3 door -whats yours?
Average around 60 mpg to work -10 miles of motorway plus a bit of town driving.
Very comfortable to drive, light steering with or withour city steering selected too!
OK the 1.9 MJ is faster but does less MPG and thats why i chose the 1.3 MJ, its fast enough for me anyway and the 35 quid tax is great - thats until this Labour govt realise how many people are changing cars and decide to hike it up (remember when diesel was cheaper than petrol?). As not owed the car for too long unable to offer advice on faults etc but im sure Foxxy and co can assist..good luck

The 1.3 is quieter and very much more comfortable than the 1.9 Sporting. I miss mine but I also miss the teething troubles of the early models. Enjoy it!

I used to get typically 58 mpg out of my 1.3 M-jet Dynamic 90 (according to the computer) and am getting 48 out of my 1.9 M-jet Sporting. This week it has been 51 - probably due to the warmer weather.

Re: New GP Diesel Owner- any advice please?

51 mpg for 1.9MJ is quite good. The other thing i didnt mention is the lack of accelerating power in my 1.3MJ - takes a long time to reach 70-75mph on the motorway but that said im approaching 50 and done all the speed thing so im happy as Larry !!!
I particulary like the Blue and me gadget - strange hearing the wife over the speakers LOL!!
I need to put it in for its 1 year service soon -approaching 9600 miles and local Fiat garage said they would do the `low mileage` service. i looked up what they do and other than an oil and filter change they just check all other areas of the service - not good value for £160 i thought. does anyone know how to get a cheaper service via an independant garage and maintain the fiat warranty, maybe there is a thread about this somewhere ?
