3 days

ive had the car three days and two problems already, firstly the brakes houling majourly but ive sivved through the site and see its a common problem which the dealer can sort out for me free of charge on warrenty correct? but also putting myfoot down in 1st 2nd and 3rd theres a clunking sound from under or behind me at first i thought it was the drivers side suspension or somethign but it might be underneath the car im not sure. any ideas of what that could be guys? i hit a rabbit on the motorway unfortuntly could that of damaged the underside in anyway biut it only happens under acceleration
?

its an 06 plate, active sport if that helps

Re: 3 days

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Second of all, i'm sorry to hear of your problems on your three day new car.

The whalesqe noises coming from the break pads is easily resolved, as for the knocking noise under acceleration you're best explaining that to the service department when you're taking the car in about the pads.

Also, poor bunny!

Re: 3 days

Everything you describe are common and can be fixed within a few hours at your dealer.

As said the brakes are an easy fix, Think theres a shim or modified brake pads.

As for the clunk ive only heard of this on the "Sportings" So far but it will either be suspension drop links, or Steering rack fault.

Re: 3 days

With regards to the sqeeling noise when braking, i had this for the first month or so and then it seemed to stop, so i dont know if it was just the pads "wearing in" as it were.

Whoopy do

All minor annoyances fixed very easy if you stop whining for 10minutes and go to a dealer. Least your car hasn't set fire to itself or decided to 'immobilise' the engine while doing 70mph which I've seen happen to a £75,000 BMW.

Re: 3 days

I dont think its fair to say hes wining mate, if you had a brand new 3 week old car that was already giving grief you would be pretty gutted I would imagine, and the last thing you want to do is give it straight back to be spannered on straight away!!

Just wait till it hits 18k and see whats wrong with it, Fiat still cant make a quality car IMHO.

Its also not the easiest thing in the world to just take it to a dealer all the time, I for example work 14 hours a day every day most of the time so trips back and forth to dealers are not an option for me and im sure alot of people, thats without saying that it shouldnt even need to go back yet, but hey, its a Fiat.

When I owned my GP I quite often worked 14 hours+ in day as it was right in the middle of the business expanding 2-3 fold the day my GP went in for new drop links (to stop knock under hard acceleration & new Blue&Me unit as I broke my port off ) I worked a 26hour day over night too as I had to go to london and back in 1 day. Id just ring the dealer and tell them to collect it and return it from my work address, which they did without question. They even brought the courtesy car to me if it was going to be in over night. I had pretty much every niggle common fault on it due to it being an early 06 build and they were ALL fixed in 2 trips and 3 days.

Fiat's aren't meant to be 'quality' cars there are meant to be cheap, safe run abouts which they do very well especially with the GP. For what it is DESIGNED for it is 'quality'. Where else can you get a car for this price thats built so well, has as many toys, as much room, as nice to drive? Do I care if the plastic trim is better on a golf? Do I f*** I'd rather my car ran faultless(except for minor annoyances) and not try to kill me from a brake system failure I had on my VAG car twice after been fobbed of by the dealer!.

Re: 3 days

The fact of the matter is that Fiat are pushing their increases in quality left right and centre, its pushed by the sales staff, advertising, everyone to lead a buyer to believe they are buying a better quality product than Fiats have previously been, and im sorry but I just dont see it....

My dealer will not collect my car as I live too far away so thats no option for me either. And im sorry but I refuse to believe that Fiat cant make a car up to the standards of say Renault, nowhere near the best but my 03 Megane lasted 30k with me far better, on the same roads, same journeys etc, its frankly pathetic, my car does not do 1 thing well....its not that good to drive, beaten by Fiesta, Corsa etc, its not that spacious, beaten by Clio etc, its not quality, beaten by VW, Skoda etc certainly not better than most of its rivals from any brand. This car was an annoying mistake, its all style and no substance, it lasted well for about 3000 miles and then started to become all Fiat on me.

Speak to anyone, and I mean anyone at all who owns a 3 weeks old car (thats when I got my 1st issue) that has had these standard issues on their car and see what they say, its an oddly Italian car owner response to say oh well, its not the end of the world I will just put up with it!

Im just peeved, like alot of people that own these cars....give me a Ford Sierra anyday, 250 notes gets a good one and no rattles!!

Funny you should say that I was out tonight helping a disabled neighbor who has a 05 renault megane mobility car that kept conking out if you took the foot of the accelerator and gave up all together outside the street on the main road so I pushed him back onto his drive and let him borrow my punto to go to the shops he commented on how fun it was to drive and He's considering the GP in a few months time when he's cars due for renewal as he said he would rather get the bus than another Renault.

My old boss bought a 7Series BMW and his first 3 weeks of ownership were a nightmare or should I say nearly none existent as he had to drive his daughters S reg mk1 Punto to work while they try to fix his car with multiple electrical faults a new engine (yes a new engine after only 700miles!). He ended up demanding a new car in the 3rd week and got another 1 which had the SAME faults except the engine didn't break this time. So after 3 months he got fed up and bought a Masserati Quattroporte and still owns it I believe.

At the end of the day any car is only as good as the dealer supporting it if your unhappy with your car sell it buy your beloved £250 ford sierra and get hammered with the rest of the money and keep some for repairs at your garage and move on and put it down to experience.

I for one know better as I get to drive for long periods and have bought a wide variety of cars in this market segment and realise that the Fiat GP for the money CANNOT be beaten by crummy french or even vauxhaul rivals. Vauxhaul can't even make their own engines properly .

If you think its just Fiat then I can assure you that you are mistaken.I could tell you loads of horror stories about other manufactures. At least on FF we are honest about faults & dont try to hide it/them.Ok...heres one,Ford forgot to put gearbox oil in fiestas & a few miles down the road in their shiny new cars customers gearboxes gave up....ooops!

Re: 3 days

I dont want to be misunderstood here, I know as well as anyone how bad all modern cars are, we run a fleet of dozens of new cars for our staff, all of various makes and the worst currently are new Passats and new Vectras, so I know its not just Fiat.....

I just hate how all cars from all manufacturers seem to be getting better at safety, but worse at just about everything else, drive a tall new midsize car, then a smaller lighter version from 10 years ago and it seems even more dull, and even less inspiring.

Older cars were reliable, new cars dont seem to be!! I just dont get all this talk of cars getting better with every generation when in most cases it just doesnt seem to be the case, my Grande in particular has been annoying, although never having let me down, 200k mile BMWs ive owned have been literally perfect, and yes better than many of the new models, we had a 525d that just shut down in traffic and wouldnt budge for anyone because the cooling system had confused the ECU!!

Its just a shame manufacturers cant get the basics right, if I crash at 60mph im going to be in a bad way regardless, just make me a car that I at least will get to travel in to have a crash!! And not rattle me to death on the way!

I certainly wont be owning another new car after this, my replacement Fiesta will be used and therefore cheap enough to not care about for example, and meanwhile I have my aged Volvo 240 which refuses to die for anyone!

How old are you? You sound like someone who's in their 70's and survived the 'War Years' :-)
