Flat Spot

Over the past few months, an annoying flat spot has developed on my GP 1.9 Sporting.

It tends to happen mainly when the engine is cold, whilst accelerating in 2nd or 3rd gear, and feels like a momentary loss of power (like I've suddenly let go of the accelerator and put it back again).

It's at low speeds (up to 30mph) and below 3,000rpm.

Dealer has looked at it twice and updated ECU, but has been unable to re-create.

Any suggestions please?

Re: Flat Spot

Same prob as me mate. ECU update does nothing for it either.

Fault with mine is a sudden loss of power and double jerk (pardon the pun) around 2 n half thousand revs in second gear while cold, in every 1 in maybe 10 cold starts

Re: Flat Spot

I had the same thing, after i changed the MAF,not as violent though just a slight hesitation at 2600RPM in third.
I had a MAF problem changed the MAF and it went away for a couple of days,i then put and enclosed IDNK in as i had to break up the original air box to change the filtter,so could get an IDNK easeir than the OG air box.

Any way it came back but worse, the new MAF i got was a cheapie of fleebay and was advised get rid and get a bosch so did,and it went away, but still sometimes gives a little hesitation when warm not when cold.???

It is a puzzler.

Scotty

Re: Flat Spot

Glad I'm not the only one with this! Yep, the problems you're both describing is exactly the same as me.

Guess my only option is to take it back in to the dealer and try to demonstrate....I'll just have to leave it there all day and demo it after work when the engine is cold. Trouble is, it doesn't do it on every trip, so it'll be s*ds law that it won't do it!

Re: Flat Spot

Has anyone who had a flat spot in the GP managed to fix it/find the problem?
Mine's still there, but better if I only fill with Shell - any other diesel and it's much worse.

Cheers

Re: Flat Spot

Yeah mine has the same problem. Been to the dealer 3 times, updates done, but the problem persists . Mine is a June '06 build 1.9 Sporting. Would be interested to see if this defect is present in later model vehicles or if the fault has been identified and fixed by Fiat. What are the build dates of your vehicles???

Now that is a good suggestion.

Re: Flat Spot

Mine has done this once and that was just after my remap and induction kit, I put it down the the dual mass flywheel struggling, and it hasn't done it since I unplugged the MAF...

Re: Flat Spot

I'd be closely looking at the operation of the EGR valve.
