Ticking sound

I went through a rather large puddle (more like a lake) on saturday and I am now paranoid I have broken my Punto. When I accellerate it sounds like the turbo is ticking.

Any ideas?

Also the rubber bit on the bottom of the bumper has been half ripped off by the water and the fogs are full of condensation.

Re: Ticking sound

Personally I wouldnt drive it another inch, straight round to the dealer under warranty, even try for for the trim fault on the basis of fit for purpose? maybe not

Re: Ticking sound

I had a problem with waterlogged fogs (well just one of the fogs) on a Fiesta.

6 months later and it still ahdn't cleared. I had to stick rolled up kitchen roll into the hollow foglight area to soak up water, over and over. There's no longer water in it but it's still all condensation. Ah well, it's getting traded in on Saturday

Yes, take it to the dealer about the ticking sound. If the engine/turbo has ingested any water it should be looked at.

Doubt if they will do anything about the trim as it was damaged by you whilst driving. More of an insurance claim if its worth the hassle.

Booked it into Desira at the start of the week, They have said there is no difference between it and a demo car. I am not convinced but I have the receipt saying they checked it and they could not see a problem so if it goes bang then i'll throw the car back at them. I intend to get a second opinion to avoid the big bang scenario. My mate says it sounds wrong and he is an ex-engineer (granted for the local Aston Martin dealer).

The car still drives fine, same performance and no vibrations, just this tiking sound when the Turbo is going.

Re: Ticking sound

Perhaps there's a bomb under your car...

Or you ran someone over and there's an old watch stuck in the engine compartement...

I avoid puddles - never seen the idea of going steaming through them!

Re: Ticking sound

To be honest it'd have to be a pretty deep puddle to draw water in. The air intake is from the top of the slam panel next to the bonnet catch.

Yeah 2000 rpm onwards but in the last few days it has sounded quieter.

Re: Ticking sound

I think this is just noisey tappets - the second service should check and adjust them - maybe T can clarify this.

Re: Ticking sound

Its not the tappets fella. Its the turbo pulsing.

I would not worry about it. Seems to be a common thing. Mine does it and has been checked over by fiat. All pressures etc are ok.

So just love the car even if it thinks that it is a watch!
