What Oil?

I want to top the oil up on my 1.9 Sporting today, have not got a chance to get to a Fiat dealer to get any Selenia, anyone recommend an oil I can pick up from Halfords?

Cheers

Re: What Oil?

apparently using the wrong oil that is not specified in the handbook could invalidate the warrenty? not sure how true this is , selenia is the one recommended by fiat so try to stick to that if you can.

Re: What Oil?

I would really reccomend going to FIAT dealer and getting Selenia.

Or if you must 5W - 40 Mobil1 / Castrol GTX.

I'll just say that the Selenia one wasn't as dear as you'd think.

The reccommended serviced intervals are significantly longer than most other cars and therefore you need an oil that will not deteriorate over that time.

A good benchmark is an oil that meets the specification Mercedes Benz 229.5 the most common of which is Mobil 1.

Other lesser specs are 229.3 and 229.1 but if you want the best go for 229.5.

My Fiat dealer tried to tell me that an Italian car needed an Italian oil and only sold Selenia

Re: What Oil?

As long as the oil you put in complies to the specifications from Fiat (you can find these in the handbook) I can't see how it could invalidate the warranty, at least it doesn't in Denmark (my local Fiat dealer uses oil from Q8 and not from Fiat).
