Unhappy Check Engine message

Hi all,

This is my first post here. I've just bought a 56 plate, 1.4 Active Sport in Orange and it looks great! However, when I first picked up the car on Friday, I started the engine to leave the showroom, and the Check Engine light came on with the message to check the engine on the dash. The salesman came out, switched the car off and then closed and opened the car with the plipper and message was gone. Said it was OK......hmmmm.....

Over the last few days - no problem at all. Then today, the message and light came back. The car still drove as normal. Parked it - went for a stroll and came back and it was gone....

Anyone with any ideas as to what this might point to???

Cheers,

Steve

Quite possible........get it updated while garage checks for error codes.

Re: Check Engine message

Thanks guys. I've got the car booked in on Sat for a check. Do you know how long it takes to update the software? They want it in for about 2 hours....

Anyway, the light came on today as I was going to work. The car wouldn't let me use more than 3000 revs. When I parked, I switched off the engine and then opened and locked the car with the plipper. When I switched on the car, the engine light was off. Does anyone else have these symptoms?

Here's hoping they'll sort it on Sat.

Re: Check Engine message

Well, just to keep everyone up to date on this, I went to the dealership and they have said that the car logs the error codes but does not say what it is apart from it's coming from the engine management side of things. They say it might be a loose connection in the "black box". So they need the car in to trace the "loose wire". Bummer.....

I hope this doesn't mean a new wiring loom or something....'cos that's bad I think.

Re: Check Engine message

Just to keep things updated:

Dealer have found "wiring fault" at phase sensor multi-plug. No engine light on anymore. Going for a long commute tomorrow to make sure. Does anyone have any idea where the phase sensor multi-plug is?

Re: Check Engine message

I got to be honest & say once the all important body computer software update (and airbag if required) has been carried out we rarely see error messages on customers cars.
