Re: wats a remap???

when the car maker sells the car, the programe on ecu is set to a basic programe that suits most users,
a remap changes that programe to one that gives you a bit more power,
or if you have other engine modifications you can have a live remap that programes the ecu to make the most of the new bits

Mind if I add to it? basically a engine kind of visualises a 3D "map" of the engine systems, but for this purpoise its the engine valve timing, the fuel injectors and the air intake from the air flow meter. using the position of the throttle it senses how much load is on the engine and chooses the correct information from the map to direct how much fuel etc the engine will need. the manufacter's set it to the happy medium between the economical and performance settings, by remapping it can be altered, so more performance can be squeezed out, sometimes at the expense of economy but normally both can be sorted, particularly on a desiel....see the 170bhp tuning on the 1.9 sporting

Re: wats a remap???

my 16v has been in the 6 times with engine faults.
1st time it was running rough at idle, and the rest were loss of power and flat spots. the dealer just reset the ecu and reloaded the software.

by the way is the UPDATE option in the blue and me menu. is the software for the handsfree. i.e a new fone??

remap question

Finally got a bit bored of the GP's diesel ommph and want to (need to) get it remaped.
Has anyone thats had their car remapped had it in at Fiat for a service. Just wondering if you've had any problems with them noticing it or sticking on an ECU update and wiping out the remap.
My cars due for a service based on my current milage in about 4 months. Should I wait till after then or get it done now....

I have also wondered about this. The manual states a check is done on the ECU whenever serviced. Putting me off getting mine done.

A 'scancheck' may be done for errors, this wont involve the remap in any way.

Re: wats a remap???

Does anyone actually understand what the tuning boxes do. To me they just sound like they trick the ECU into detecting a lower voltage at the fuel rail(hence lower fuel pressure). And therefore the ECU justs responds by increasing the pressure to what it thinks is right.
Is that all it is, because if it is surely it's nothing more than a variable pot, be it a digital one or analogue one. Or am I missing something with regard to the tuning boxes?

Re: wats a remap???

it only plugs into the fuel pressure sensor on the end of the common rail and takes the 12v supply direct from the battery, it is the digimap plus but i dont know how it works exactly, but it does.
