(T) Dualogic Transmission

Hi, I'm new and these forums are so good I've already found the answer to the question which brought me here and that was - Is it normal that my Dualogic GP doesn't "creep"? So, now I know that it is supposed not to do that, my supplementary question is whether there is any engine tweak possible to make it do so? I find that the car seems to be very inclined to roll backwards and, as the hardstanding at the front of my house is moderately sloped, I pretty much have to get up there in one go otherwise I'm in danger of rolling towards the pavement and/or leaping through the front window. I've tried messing with the handbrake but I only passed my test last year and I'm a bit of a nervous driver etc etc. I was a bit dismayed to find that the Fiat (which is lovely in other ways) didn't behave like the Mini I learned in or, as I understand it, the majority of autos/semis.

Yes its normal,you have to view the car as a manual but with a robotised hydraullic unit that changes the gear for you through the same shaft into the gearbox as a gear cable on manual version.

Does your car have hill holder?

Thank-you for your reply. No, I don't have hill holder, that goes along with the traction control stuff doesn't it? Can I get it added or has that ship sailed - I've checked what it's supposed to do and it sounds like it would solve my problem.

How's the Dualogic treating you so far?

Just doing shopping runs really so very low mileage, very early days yet, but I've got no complaints about the way it shifts gear or anything. I learned to drive in a flash and expensive semi-auto Mini and I don't think the Dualogic compares badly it's just that it's different and I didn't anticipate that but the tendancy to roll back is a real pain and I wish to god I had the hill-holder!

Surely you can't roll back that much when your foot moves from the brake to the accelerator, I mean lots of people drive manuals up slopes...

Have you tried left foot braking?

There's no clutch control without a clutch pedal. I tried left foot braking and nearly catapulted the car into the lounge. I freely admit that I'm pretty lame as a driver but all my friends who've driven the car, one of whom has driven autos as well as manuals, struggled with it. That or they werw just trying to make me feel better...

Its really not that bad once you get used to it..

So now I understand Dualogic (thanks everyone). I know also that my life would be better if I'd got the ESP package, specifically the Hill-Holder - this is exactly what I need to get up onto my hardstanding and also up the hill from town which is always bumper-to-bumper traffic. Can I get this added or am I looking at a stark choice between getting a lot handier with my handbrake or trading my car in?

the hill holder is an integral part of the ESP unfortunately.... can't be added after, just keep practising your hill starts !
