Cool Gp Sporting Dpf Filter???

HI,

My GP Sporting is just about due for its 1st service. I spoke to my dealer and they said that there are 2 prices depending on if my car has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) fitted or not. Apparently some models have the DPF while others don't.

It is £189 if the car was manufactured without the DPF or £139 if I have one.

Obviously I don't want to get ripped off for 50 squids.....does anyone know if I can tell myself whether my model has the DPF.

Looking forward to any advice regards
this.

Bear in mind I'm in Oz so it may be a little different to you.

Re: Gp Sporting Dpf Filter???

first of all, is your car a 1.9JTD or a 1.4 sporting?!
if it is a diesel it will have the filter, if it isnt then it wont.

Re: Gp Sporting Dpf Filter???

Does the DPF have anything to do with when you should change your engine oil?

Re: Gp Sporting Dpf Filter???

Well luvduvs copied the below straight from his service booklet, I didn't think it had anything to do with the engine oil so what does this actually mean?

Engine oil and oil filter shall actually be changed according to the conditions of use of the car. Where fitted, a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) will indicate a need to change engine oil by a warning light or message (where provided) on the instrument panel

I didn't either, I thought it caught the particals in the exhaust, then , when full , it did a "burn" to get rid of them all, then started collecting again!

I'm sure mine is fixed service intervals at 18,000 miles, not variable....

Re: Gp Sporting Dpf Filter???

I would assume it takes pre-determined values from distance/start up's etc...would need to look deeper into this.

Re: Gp Sporting Dpf Filter???

thought i would dig this thread up, i've just changed jobs and so because of this my drive to work is about 5 minutes or a 20 minute walk. I walked to work last week but i've been getting up late this week (broken alarm clock) so i've had to drive.

as you can imagine the car hasn't warmed up. i went to start it today after work, it took longer than usual to start but when it did it though out a cloud of grayish dust. was this the car clearing the burn soot or something else?

Re: Gp Sporting Dpf Filter???

Hi,

I thought I'd share some experiences with the DPF from the dutch GP community.

Beware of driving only short distances when your car is equipped with a DPF. It usually takes 45-60 minutes (and motorway driving) for the DPF to reach the required temperature for starting the cleaning burn process. The DPF needs cleaning about every 600-1000 kilometers. If your car doesn't reach the criteria for starting the cleaning process, the DPF might become more and more congested (with the obvious problems).

You'll recognise the DPF cleaning process by increased fuel consumption (lower economy). You'll also hear a distinct low rumble coming from the exhaust when taking your foot off the accellerator during the cleaning process. Sounds pretty nice!

In The Netherlands all GP diesels are equipped with DPF's. Many owners in NL also complain about power loss around 1500-2000 rpm when the engine is warming up. If you keep the car at a certain rpm, the car starts shaking heavily. This issue is linked to the DPF and AFAIK is getting worse as the DPF is getting near the cleaning stage, but unfortunately FIAT NL hasn't recognised this issue officially.

Kind regards,
Michel

Any updates to this issue? I'm also facing this problem with the DPF on my Croma 1.9
