Door lock problem

I left the wifes car in to get the door lock fixed only to be told by the dealer that they wouldn't replace the lock until they'd tried a "fix" from Fiat. Apparently the dealers are being told by Fiat that they have to strip down the door and lock mechanism to carry out a modification to try and cure the problem. Only if the modification doesn't work are the dealers allowed to change the lock. The old lock has to be sent along with the chassis number of the car to a specific address so Fiat must be having serious issues with the lock design.

Of course the modification didn't work on my wifes car so it is booked in again to get the new lock fitted . I've lodged a complaint with Fiat customer services as this is very obviously a known fault and yet the dealers can't change the faulty locks until they go through a fairly time consuming process of an attempted repair with the result that I've had to arrange a repeat visit to the dealer . My wife is a nurse and can't really do without her car and we've already had to rejig various arrangements to try and get the car sorted.

Dealer replaced lock without any questions and no silly excuses as to why it happened (see other thread!!)

Depends on your definition of silly excuses. The dealer did show me the paperwork from Fiat directing them not to replace the lock until the attempted fix was carried out. Still ,it's something I'll mention to Fiat customer services if they ever phone me back.

Re: Door lock problem

Some cars were affected by a return to Fiat for investigation policy, this bulletin was issued to all dealers.Personally I would of renewed lock to get you (customer) away, customer satisfaction comes first.

The dealer didn't have the part in stock. They did offer to remove the lock from a car they had in the showroom but I didn't have time to wait. They have offered to do something for me at the first service which is due shortly. I've no real complaints about their customer service. Anyhow the car went back yesterday and all is now well.
