Lightbulb Car Alarms?

Does anyone recommend a car alarm?

I'm thinking one with a proximity snssor and maybe one that sends a txt to say the state of my car - depending on price...

Has anyone got personal recommendations of anywhere near Nuneaton to go to get one fitted?

Cheers

Re: Car Alarms?

I don't really see the point in car alarms. They often go off randomly, most people just ignore them and when they do go off it just gets annoying.

Modern cars are very difficult to steal anyway, what with the dead locks, immobiliser, steering lock etc.

Re: Car Alarms?

I've always wondered if its really necessary to have an alarm - its mainly to attract attention when it goes off right? The main thing is to prevent the car from being started so doesn't an immobiliser do that?

The alarm on my previous car went off whenever it felt like it and it got so bad that it was actually draining the battery to the point where I had trouble starting up occasionally. In the end I just muted it

Re: Car Alarms?

be very careful fitting alarms into modern cars, not as easy as it used to be with the electronics.
for people who bought new,was it not worth paying for from new?

No, they are no good! How many times have you run into the street to see why a car alarm has gone off?!

If its for theft protection, the standard immobilisers on most cars are sufficient for them not to be driven off. Far more effective than an alarm

In my case, a thief would be buggered as the doors can't be opened from the inside so the cops should catch up with him before he works out how to get out of the car!!

Re: Car Alarms?

For anybody not recommending an alarm my mate had his escort broken into a couple weeks ago. They bent the top of the door out trieed to start it by smashing the ignition barrel to bits then because they copuldn't start it cleaned the car out. it was parked outside his bedroom window.

If his car was alarmed as soon as whoever it was started plling at the top of the door the alarm would have went off and they wouldn't have even got into the car cos Stephen would have been out with his bat, chasing them down the road in the scud!

I do recommend an alarm. Have had one in every car I have owned since my Uno which funnily enough was the only one somebody broke into. ( not a difficult feat ) Stealing the tax.

Re: Car Alarms?

They're good, but do go off whenever they like, mine goes off whenever a bus drives past it or a car with a loud exhaust.

Re: Car Alarms?

It's not the car getting broken into that worries me, it's the little bastards in my area vandalising it that I'm worried about, I'll probably get an alarm solely to stop that to be honest.

Have heard stories of people wiring their cars up to the mains so any little sh*t that clambers on to the car gets a fair few volts shot up their backside Would def work better than an alarm!

May also have heard that doing that may be illegal.............

Still a nice thought though

This could start a whole new post about anti-theft/vandalism devices!

Trying to find the attachment of a South African car that had anti-jacking flamethrowers fitted under the door sills!
