mapped sporting

Hi all, a guy in another thread asked if he should swop from a HGT to a sporting, I have just swopped from the new Focus ST tuned to 305 hp to a new sporting diesel, what i can say up to now is im very impressed. I picked the car up last wednesday and had it chipped on the thursday by angel tuning...... The result, if any one is serious about getting it done i suggest doing it, the car is totally transformed, the main benefits are abviously its quicker but the turbo comes on boost much quicker about 1500 rpm, and stays strong right through the rev range, it has vastly improved throttle response too. Also the engine is much quieter, at crusing speed you can hardly hear it. It even starts better from cold too. All this and over 40mpg, alot better than 17 from the focus. This along with the styling swayed me to buy the punto, its the first punto i have owned and im very impressed with the car, the quality, the ride, its so refined at crusing speed, and of course the price its so good value for money.

Re: mapped sporting

Hi, I got rid because of two things fuel economy, 17 mpg not good, having to find super unleaded fuel was a pain. And the fact that i dont use the focus that much and it was alot of money sat in the garage, so it was time to go. I can honesty say i love the punto since it was re-mapped it isnt that much slower as the extra torque now available is fantastic.

Thanks for the mini review..... I've been talking to Angel tuning, and am going to get the remap as soon as the engine is bedded in (only 160 miles so far!) let us know if there are any disadvantages.... i.e. clutch slip ect.. but I can seriously see myself callling them in a few weeks!

Re: mapped sporting

cool. im gonna keep mine standard engine wise for a bit and concentrate on the looks and sounds of it. then remap it when im a bit bored with the engine. has the fuel consumption improved or worsened? (is that a word?)

i think the angel tuning remaps it to 170bhp which is pretty safe for the GP... any more and it starts to struggle a little. hth.

hows your fuel consumption? mine still has hardly any miles on it, but went down to blackpool yesterday, 'indicated' 70-80 all the way and only got 44 mpg... in the vRS that would have been 52 ish.... I assume it will improve as it's run in.....

Re: mapped sporting

The fuel consumption is about 40.5 mpg, which to be honest im impressed with as its alot better than 17 from my focus. And i think 40 from a 170 car is good. My mates only did 38 from new which is standard. Since it was chipped you dont need to rev it just use to extra torque available now, from 1500 rpm, you dont have to go past 2500 rpm,. I don agree with others though i think the fuel consumption could be better on them, my mate 150 lean cupra does about 52mpg, but it is well run in now......

Re: mapped sporting

must admit that the mpg for the sporting isn't great... but like you say its better than your focus and will be better than my 225... so i will be happy!

Re: mapped sporting

well... still got it at the moment, waiting for the gp to come. more or less the same reasons as you... i was using it to go to work and back in...about 14 mile a day, and was putting about £40-£50 a week in in fuel and i couldn't justify it! lol!! i dont need 225bhp to get me to work. dont get me wrong, its a fantastic car, no trouble at all, and its fantastic to drive, along with all the toys i needed... but it was the expense of running it just as a normal car!! if i was a trackday whore then fine, it would be a pretty hard car to beat... but im not, so it has to go!
