Re: Lowering quote

Just called direct line, apparently modifying my car in any way invalidates my policy because I'm under 25!

All I want is to lower my car so it doesnt roll Feels dangerous when it rolls!

Yeah I'm in the same situation as you, although I didn't know you can't do any mods , I thought they just wanted stupid prices for the mods.

Guess we need to look for another insurance comp?

Re: Lowering quote

I think it's ****ing stupid tbh.

Held my license for 10 months, have owned and regularly driven 2 different cars in that time. Had NO accidents whatsoever, or speeding tickets/fines etc.

All counts for nothing though as I'm young and will crash at the slightest opportunity given to me.

The body roll on a 1.2 GP should make the car insurance group 20 as you could lose control and die. If "ESP and ABS" can drastically drop the insurance group of a vehicle, then a car that suffers badly from body roll should be classed as dangerous imho as the vehicle is "unstable"

dunno why coz on a sporting (M-Jet at least) you will have understeered off the road before either esp or abs has done anything lol not that steerig would have warned you anyways! lol so yeah is a mystry to me why this car is 9 groups lower than my old almera which on paper was similar performance!

Hell yea, that is virtually the same as me, been driving this car insured in my name for nearly a year now, have had no crashes, points/fines etc... and still Direct Line want over £1200 for the next year.

Do you know what I could do to my car for 1200 quid, well you probably do but...

Re: Lowering quote

if you change the springs change the absorbers too, cause the stock one's will not function properly after 6-7000 miles. This will cost you about €600. If you do not want to lower your car and you just want it to be more stable just change the absorbers and leave the stock springs.

ps the alloys are ugly

holy sh*t the dampers are knackered after just 6 or7k?

Surely this can't be the case?

off topic does the GP have a rear antiroll bar at all? (yes being lazy its wet and i aint going to jack it up and look) seems like a stiffer rear antiroll bar might help turn in?

So what dampers are worth fitting them or more to the point what dampers are available and are they all the same for sporting or standard models?

excuse my ignorance or lack of searching but have only really seen lowering posts or coilovers, where as I think the springing rates are not that bad just poorly damped.

Re: Lowering quote

the dampers with non stock (shorter) springs are working out of range. And yes they will be destroyed after 6-8k

Re: Lowering quote

I dont believe that. There are people, maybe on here too, who have lowered there car and have no such problems.
