(S) How much to lower and on what coilovers?

Hi Guys,

New member here. Just bought a nearly new GP 1.4 Active Sport.

Just want to know how much to lower it by on 17's? I know the sportings are 35mm lower than the standard GP's.....any ideas how much to drop it by?

Also need to know which are the best coilovers to use. I dont want to get some cheap s**t that aint going to last!

Reckon will spend in the region of £500....but obviously good ones cheaper would be awesome.

you should find some FK coilovers on german ebay for that price

Hi, from what i hear, it aint a good idea to drop the car more than 40mm as it puts stress on the drivetrain and can result in breakage.

If you arnt bothered about ride comfort etc and only want the car to look better, save a lot of money and get some Eibach's.

(and the GPS is only 20mm lower than the actives)

ok so lower it about 30mm then?

also would it be wise to fit 18" OZ Superturismo....or should i stick to 17's?


as it is a 1.4 i dont want to damage my diff and gear box.

Read another thread on here which suggested that OZ superturismo in 18's should be ok and not put too much stress!

I take it yours is a 1.4 8v? If so 18's may be dodgey, however, i have always thought that providing the rolling diameter of the wheel is the same/very similar then it should be ok. In which case you might be ok with 18" wheels with 225/35/18 tyres.

As for lowering, drop it 40mm, any less jus isnt worth it i dun think.

Low end FKs can be bought for around 400 notes at the moment. Good price imo.

Get coilovers and then you can decide yourself how low you want to go and what looks good.

Not to mention the main point of coilovers - the handling.

what about just dropping it on Eibach springs?

What are the negatives of that?

Without replacing shocks aswell you are in for a bouncy ride, will not handle as well as a full spring and shock replacement kit or coilovers, if your not happy with the ride height it's tough sh*t etc etc.

I wouldn't bother with them, considering you can get FKs (better suspension manfacturers) for this price:

- Punto 17" sporting alloys

- OZ Super T's

- BSA Bullets

any opinions?

I'm a big fan of OZ Super Ts, and I know of somebody on the forum with a set for sale with tyres going cheap.
