Removing the stripes from GP Stripes...

Hi there, just wondering if anyone knows an easy/good way of removing the stripes that come with the GP Stripes version of the punto without damaging paintwork? I've had it 4 months and thought I'd keep them for a bit, and reaction was 50:50 with most people, but the look is wearing on me now compared to when I see a plain black or blue GP which seems to look better without any stripes.

I know that a simple hair dryer can be used to soften it up but the metallic paint is quite soft as so don't want to cause any damage! Cheers for any replys!

who cares what others think its your car however I would assume any dealer with valet bay would be able to do this easily enough as they remove sign writing on vans for resale etc

They should come of pretty easy with a hairdryer to heat them up first. But, as T said, take it to somewhere and get it done professionally. I've heard stickers pulling layers of paint of with them!!

Re: Removing the stripes from GP Stripes...

Yeah, I was sort of thinking along the same lines too. Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll be taking it down to a dealer shortly then. One of the main benefits of the stripes has been letting me know how often to clean my car! Probably will keep the side ones though, just remove the ones on the left hand side along the bonnet and roof.

And don't worry I agree with you T, although initally I was worried what other people think, don't really care now, the GP is miles better looking than rivals anyway!

Re: Removing the stripes from GP Stripes...

must admit I occasionally wonder whether or not I should have kept the stripes on mine.

I have seen a few GPs with the bonnet and roof stripes removed and they do look good

Think I will keep mine now though cus I makes the car stand out (quite a few GPs in my area) will help me find the car In Alton Towers car park later in the year

I asked the dealer to not fit the stripes to mine as i didnt like them. Glad i did too! They fitted some stickers saying Formula though (said it was a special edition?) and ive took them off.

lol it makes me laugh when dealers put these stickers on and say its a special edition. Its not a special edition its just a sticker. A few months back i saw some big car supermarket like motorpoint advertising brand new GP Sporting JTM's What the hell is a GP Sporting JTM, they say its a special edition just because they have put a JTM sticker on it, then some poor sod goes and buys it and thinks its a special editon

Haha, indeed my name would mean nothing.

Naw, I need to keep them, they go so well with my White alloys IMO.

It is in a way,it wont make your car worth anymore but if the limited edition (unlike the stilo X box.......which you never got a X box) means alloys, metalic paint, air con etc etc for no extra money then surely its worth it?

Re: Removing the stripes from GP Stripes...

I was tempted to get the Stripes model when i saw one, but after going away and thinking about it realised that when i came to sell it on in the future i'd have trouble, as some people wouldn't like them. I decided to go for the 360 model, so i've got the air con, just waiting for the sun to come out so i can use it!?

Air Con. Such an important thing for alot of people, I really don't see why in the UK.

I've still got my original wheels, So I can tear the stripes off and put them on and have a blue 1.2 active with blue + me.
