Fitting Suspension?

I'm going off tomorrow to get my APEX springs (Lower it by 35 mm) but how does one go about fitting them? Any tutorials out there? My dad and cousin did an old Vauxhall Corsa back in the day so we've got the spring compressors etc. So what's it like compared to that??

Also, 35mm will it be enough? Anyone any pictures? (I'm changing my wheels from the 15 inch, to 17s btw, probably the sporting ones)

Thanks all!

Spring fitting on the GP is essentially exactly the same as any other car with springs in all four corners. Although a little more tricky than the older cars which are alot easier to work on. The Rear is as easy as anything and won't take you any more than 30mins.

The front is a little more tricky. Make sure all lines are unclipped properly and remember which order you unclipped them (as the shock itself has the clips on it). When unbolting and bolting the shocks you may need someone to push on it to ensure the bolts can move freely and especially to line it up when bolting back in. tbh if you are mechanically minded and done this before you will do it quite easily. I have mentioned before, watch for the top thread on the front shocks, it's quite weak and don't put too much force on it, theres hardly any pressure put on this part of the shock when driving so no need to go crazy when tightening up.

Modern cars these days mean it can often take an hour or two longer than on something like the mk2 or older cars. It's not necessarily more difficult than other cars, but often fiddly and a little more time consuming. All good fun.

Re: Fitting Suspension?

Thanks mate! I got the springs ordered today so they should be here in a week and a bit. They've passed details of a guy who can fit them, but I havn't got a price from him yet - what's a fair price?

At a garage expect to pay between 80 - 150 quid. Like i've mentioned before it's probably a good idea to get a mechanic to do it as a foreigner as it can be done on your driveway and it's not a complicated job. half the price aswell.

Okay mate.

Okay, the guy has rang -- Are Pi Springs any good? Yes/no? I don't want to shell out the extra money for Eibach + Wait for delievery.

Not the best spring in the world, and one member has claimed the drop not being quite as low as eibach. If you can just go for the eibachs.

I'm not sure of the price differences, but i'm almost sure apex get better reviews than PI.

Re: Fitting Suspension?

Apex is about 20 sheets cheaper. Oh well, I don't really want to wait 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for your help mate.

Re: Fitting Suspension?

I would get the eibach springs as alot of people on here recommend them over the Pi springs, don't be impatient, just wait for the Eibach's

Re: Fitting Suspension?

Right.....Please please please please please listen to me on this one as i know what im on about and have purchased them already.

Stay clear of PI's they are pretty poor, they dont lower enough and as for ride comfort, well, i may aswell have welded the suspesion solid.

Dont get me wrong, they are probs the cheapest way of lowering your car, but for the love of god, spend the extra 35-40 quid and get the eibachs.

As for fitting, most places quite 100 for fitting, apparantly the front end on the GP is quite fiddly.
