Correct tyre size for 17" GP

Hi folks

I'm thinking of getting some 17" alloys for my Grande Punto and from what I can gather, the tyre size I should be looking for is either 205/45/17 or 205/40/17.

Any ideas which is correct (or both?). I want to get the right size for the gearing etc.

Cheers

Hi, well either are "right" the only difference is in the profile, however as many people will say, you need to keep the rolling diameter of the wheel as close to standard as possible, i have 205/40/17 on my 1.2 and nothing has blown up yet

you need 205/45/17. otherwise the rolling diameter is wrong and your spedo speed would be different to your actual speed..

Nope, 45's would be more out than 40's. I have 40's and they are slightly bigger than the standard 15's

m8 there has been a big topic about this before, 40s are to small
http://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punt...2-dynamic.html

use this :

http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp

as richc says:

You need to enter your wheel size in the top row which is 175/65/15.( the standard 1.2 gp wheels)

Then you need to look for 2 things, 1 that the difference in the third line is below 2.5% and that the speedo reading is as close to 70 as possible.

I think you will be looking at 205/45/17.
