Footwell lights

I have got some LED strips to go in the front footwells and was wondering if anyone knew where I could join the cable to. I want to do them off the interior light and would be able to follow the cable down the pillar and into the dash and connect there, but am just wondering if anyone knew where the cable was so I don't have to take the trim off to work out where it goes.

Thanks in advance.

Alex

Re: Footwell lights

You can Wire it into the headunit apparently, although I havent tried myself. My ideal place was the interior light as well.

Re: Footwell lights

The benefit of the interior light is it has the automatic dimmer built in so all the interior lighting will dim at the same time. So I'll take the feed from the interior light when I can locate the right wires!

Re: Footwell lights

sounds abit dodgy to me, i wouldn't even tink about touching the electrics, could cause all sorts of faults in the future.

Re: Footwell lights

wire in parallel to the wires behind the courtesy light (if you have a sporting the wiring is quite complex cos of 2 bulbs and lots of switch positions). Not tried it but there is no reason why that wont work. Im sure you could feed it down from there without having to remove any trim. Just takes some niffty tucking.

What makes you think that only the Sporting has "2 bulbs & lots of switch positions"?

Re: Footwell lights

it does have 2 bulbs, i took the light appart last night to see what type of buls were in there, there are two switches (one left, one right) each with 3 positions. To get them both on always you switch the left one on, to get the right one only you switch the right switch while the left is switched, to get the left you have to switch the left and the right, to get them both on auto you switch them both to the middle and so on. As i said, rather complex ( i probably got those combinations wrong). If you were going to wire a light off it you would have to chose which bulb you wanted it to run off i guess.

I didn't say yours didn't have two bulbs. I said what makes you think that only Sportings have them. As far as I know all G.P.'s have the dual light set up.

Re: Footwell lights

Why do you want lights in your footwell? is it so you can vacuum your mats at night?

Re: Footwell lights

I wondered how long before the negative comments started!!!! I am following the footsteps of minnnt who I think was done some nice interior lighting.

I haven't had chance to look into it yet but will put some pics up when I have done it.

Re: Footwell lights

lol not negative comments, we were just saying that we wouldn't do it to our GP, as if a fault occured you can say bye bye to your warranty, electronics is a dodgy area to be fidling with, unless you know what you are doing of coarse.
