Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

I have ordered a GP 1.4 Sporting in New Orleans Blue and having read another tread about painting the Brake Clipers I have decided I am good do that to mine. It is going to be New Orleans Blue so what colour would u suggest I paint them? Obviously red is not going to work and I think silver would be too brash. How about Gold would that suit do u think and can u get the caliper paint in that colour

Thanks for your advice

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

My personal preferance for std calipers is black. If they are uprated (Brembos or suchlike) then maybe something else as it's OK to advertise uprated parts but not standard.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

they come in silver dude, and they arn't too brash. gold might be though. red's always good, but can look a bit too racey sometimes. i'd be inclined to stick to standard with your colour of car.

i used hammerite 'hammered copper' looks great, and i wanted to use something different to all the reds, blue, yellows and greens etc.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

when it comes to calipers i always think to be different, maybe a yellow, lime or even the same colour as the car!
you can get caliper paint in most colours just check out ebay or go into your local halfords.

Its all personal preference obviously. I think red would work myself but its your choice. I dont think blue would be too bad either but minnnts look great in the hammered copper, reckon that would look on yours too.

"Why not? I think red would look nice with red retro badges "

Hmmm i hadn't' thought of that, though i don't know whether or not it will come with the new red badges on it or not.

"i used hammerite 'hammered copper' looks great, and i wanted to use something different to all the reds, blue, yellows and greens etc."

I think thats what I meant by gold and it does look pretty good I think.

I didn't realise they came already painted silver so will wait and see what thats looks like before deciding.

Thanks guys for all your advice, much appreciated.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

If you have ordered it within the last week or so you have the best chance of getting them, im still not sure though whether the UK market will ever get them on the GP, could be wrong though.

The hammered copper does sound like what you were refering to and it is nice.

Ill see if i can track down a pic for you so you can see for yourself.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

Only managed to have a quick look as im at work and the closest i could find was a blue 1.9 Sporting, to be honest the calipers dont stand out very much as standard, they will be even less noticable on your 1.4 as the spokes are thicker.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

i think red will look good, but i wanted something that is different...

i would also just use hammerite as the brake dust just seems to wash off, where as i found that with the calliper paint it seemed to make it stick to the callipers. HTH.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

Definately agree with that, for some reason caliper paint does hold brake dust and it can look shabby very quickly. Hammerite is the way forward.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

i had red calliper paint on my old corsa sxi, and it stuck to it and i couldn't get it off and it looked awful, but that was on the rear drums. hammerite does seem to be very good and resistant to the dust.

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

Hello all - new to the forum. I've got my eye on the 1.4 Sporting, fancy teh Chemical Grey.

Was thinking about getting the red badges and painting the calipers red, or keeping the blue badges and doing em a matching blue. What hammerite product did you use? Spray or out a tin?

Cheers!

Re: Painting Brake Clipers what colour???

hiya matey, welcome to the forum. i used the stuff in the tin as they're easier to paint with a brush rather than mask everything up to spray.
