Changing Your Indicator Bulbs Sir?

Right O, Just swapped my indicator bulbs out for the mirrored philips type PY21W.

TBH its a quick, cheap and effective MOD.

Anywhoo below is a step to step for those a little bit scared or just those of you who are a bit nosey!

So first things first, lift the locking lug to open your wheel arch access point.

Place your hand inside and you will feel the indicator housing. Turn it to the left and the bulb will remove...

Replace the bulb with your new shiney one and slam that bad lad back into your motor. Making sure to close the wheel arch flap when done lol.

Then you will have the following:-

they don't indicate a different colour so they would not be visible at night.

I must be missing something - if its the same then why have them changed?

Or is this for when its blown and needs replacing?

The bulbs Capt. Chaos has installed are designed to look silver when unlit while still giving the normal orange colour when lit.

This means the silver bulbs blend into the light array and don't stick out giving the headlight the "fried egg" look.

If you fancy a set I found them for just over £10 delivered on eBay:

A bargain for what I think is a simple but effective refinement to the look of the car.

Definately a modification worth doing. Its so simple yet it makes a big difference in my opinion.

Re: Changing Your Indicator Bulbs Sir?

hay, thanks for the nice guide!
maybe a silly Q: the hatch for gaining access to the indicators - can you also replace your headlight bulbs by the same method?

thanks in advance.

There is only a hatch on the drivers side, you can reach the catch quite comfortably on the passengers side so there is no need for one. Headlight are just as easy to change although there is a little latch that tends to be a bit awkward when putting it all back in.

Ill reply to your PM in a couple of mins by the way, not ignoring you .

Re: Changing Your Indicator Bulbs Sir?

i fitted both my indicator bulbs in the same way as shown above through the latch. when i changed my headlight bulbs i opened the bonnet and then removed the plastic cover, its all described very clearly in the manual how to change all of the bulbs etc.

Re: Changing Your Indicator Bulbs Sir?

Just replaced my headlight bulbs with the Philips H4 80% brighter bulbs.

For those that have not done this yet do it.

not seen them on at night but tested the lights with one original and one philips and there is a massive difference!

Friend of mine has a GP but is out the country at the moment when he gets back I will take a piccy at night showing the diff between the two.

To change the bulbs,

Open bonnet

Remove the rubber plastic circular bung to the rear of the light.

Stick your hand in and remove the black plastic plug at the back of the light (Just pulls off)

Then feel for a metal clip this pushes in and to the right to unlock the light bulb itself.

Remove bulb and place new bulb in its place making sure you dont touch the glass of the bulb (Will kill the bulb with the grease in your skin)

Push the clip back over the bulb to hold in place (latches back the way it came off)

Replace rubber bung.

Jobs a good un

Re: Changing Your Indicator Bulbs Sir?

are those Silvered indicator bulbs "E" marked???

Lidl have sets of bulbs in for £3.99 this week either blue or +50% brightness put some blue ones in the headlamps (H4) and front fogs (H1) a much whiter light compaired to the original yellowy halogen and they are "E" marked should keep any over enthusiastic MOT or copper happy...
