Brilliant Thanks that worked great followed the steps on a winter day snowing and raining on and off (the only day I had to do it in) took around 2hours including a cup of tea and the dremel work (keeping warm inside)
Worked great only side effect was the outside handle is not as good as it used to be have to give it a good yank but ill consider replacing the unit shortly.

Re: Drivers door lock replacement / Repair

Hi All. Suffered the same common fate last night where suddenly, the driver's door cannot be open from within. Was relieved to realised that its a common issue from Fiat Forums.

Called local dealer and the price could be up to SGD200 for parts and labour. Went ahead to follow this guide and got it sorted. I didn't had the chance to buy any rubber washer and merely fixed the cover back as-is. Hopefully it will last!

I uploaded a video to let members here understand further on how the mechanism worked. Good luck and enjoy!

Re: Drivers door lock replacement / Repair

Oh.. two more things by the way..

1) Those who had bought a new replacement instead of repairing the current; any identical issue thereafter? Because if its a design fault, I'm wondering if the new parts had this sorted out.

2) When fixing back at the step indicated by the 10th picture of the guide, I've put the white piece of plastic further back away (using black electronic tapes to thicken the rubber outer cable cover) so as to create more tension to the pull cable attached to the inner door handle. I believe you can explore this option if you experience unnecessary "play" in the door handle.

Just wondering if there are any other ways to shorten the middle metal cable to create more tension for pulling.

Re: Drivers door lock replacement / Repair

Does anybody know where I can get the little black clip that holds the cable on to the back of the interior door handle. Somebody has broken mine and bodged a fix with cable ties but I'd rather have the proper clip.
My problem is that the drivers door doesn't turn on the interior light. I'm trying to figure out how to test at the connector before I get a new lock. Anybody know what colour wires got to the switch in the lock and how I can test?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem but I cannot see what I need to jam down. I tried something after which the door wouldn't open from the outside as well! I've now got it back to open from the outside but can't figure out which bit I need to push down. Any advice greatly appreciated as MOT is due in 5 days. Thanks

Re: Drivers door lock replacement / Repair

Thanks, guys! Mine played up today ... a bit awkward in Sainsbury's car park when you can't get out of the car, and then the door won't stay shut when you've finally opened it using the outside handle. I was able to fix it using Steader's trick. It's fine now, but I'll know what to look for in the future. :-)
