1.2/1.4 MAP sensor replacement.
Struggling to start when cold, Poor fuel economy your MAP could be on the blink

The MAP sensor (Manifold Air Pressure) sensor Detects the amount of air in the inlet manifold (it also detects air temperature) and Adjusts the fuel mixture as required.....<br />

If your car struggles to start (as in it fires up and the revs suddenly drop away it could be your MAP sensor

Re: 1.2/1.4 MAP sensor replacement.

Having trouble starting my 07 1.2L Grande Punto Active in the recent cold weather. During the cold snap earlier on in the year, garage replaced the engine coolant sensor, which at the time seemed to fix the problem. However, with the start of the cold weather this week, I'm getting the same problem - difficult to start, and when it finally starts, the revs die, then engine shuts off.

So I'll have a wee nosy at the MAP sensor, and see if giving it a clean / cleaning the electrical contacts helps any...

Got the MAP sensor out this morning for a clean. Apart from a slight smearing of mayo (oil/water mix) the sensor was pretty clean. Wiped the small amount of may off with a lint free cloth, and refitted it. It's a bit warmer today, so no issues starting the car either before or after cleaning the MAP sensor. Always seems to be difficulty starting when it's below freezing.

Anyways, I have a OBD reader on its way from the bay of e, so I'll see what fault codes have been flagged up before investigating this further.

Cheers!

Re: 1.2/1.4 MAP sensor replacement.

Got obd reader in the post the other day. Error code of p0115 flagged up. Coolant temperature showing 54C on idle after start up, while air intake temperature shows 108C. I know its a bit milder today, but not that warm!

Incidentally, car started first time.... I did have the coolant temp sensor replaced in april this year, so I'm leaning towards a faulty MAP sensor?

Map sensor replaced, so far no issues with the car starting. MPG has dropped quite a bit though, probably due to the ecu relearning.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this. I have a 2012 Panda 169 with the 1.2 engine and it behaves exactly the same....
