Generic MP3 input on active HU

Generic MP3 input on active HU

This is really easy to do and should only cost you a couple of quid!

Firstly you will need to make up a lead.

the cheapest way to do this is to use a cheap pair of 3.5mm jack plug headphones from the likes of Pound stretcher as long as they have a longish lead..

Cut the ear phones off the lead, marking the right and left earphone wire

strip the plastic off the wire (they are normally Enameled wire one gold and one red/ blue or green)

untwist and separate the 2 separate wires on each wire twist the gold wires together these are the Earth, the other 2 regardless of colour (are + left or = right Hence you labeled right and left before you cut the ear phones off)

next heat the very ends of the wire to burn the enamel off with a lighter nevt cover each bit in heat shrink leaving enough room to fold the wire over 4 times and fit a 110 red crimp onto the wire end (repeat for all three wires ((there are three wires now as you paired up the gold wires (((GND)))

next insulate the crimps (i used heat shrink)

and use some tape to hold the wires into the crimp as an added fail safe

next pop the headunit out

locate the AUX socket

your looking for A.AF-R (PLUG THE RIGHT wire in)
A.A (earth symbol)
A.AF-L (plug the left wire in)

put back together and test.. ( i just run the wire out of the corner of the HU the wire is thin enough to push back in to the void round the HU when not in use and pull out when wanted)

I will try and get some pictures up once i find my digital camera...

Re: Generic MP3 input on active HU

So is this any good for a Stilo head unit? Also do you have to select the input (AUX) or is it automatic?

Re: Generic MP3 input on active HU

Just did mine now, bit of a squeeze but done, great sound quality, got my iPod touch connected and am surfing the wi-fi from my house. Don't get interference luckily. Thanks. Oh and I used a wire coat hanger to get the HU out.

Hey, its weird that your HU has no labels, but having compared it to the wiring diagram I have labelled the connectors I believe are for the AUX. However I am not sure, best thing is to give it ago, the worst thing that could happen is you blow the fuse which are easy to replace i'm sure.

It is the same as yours with labels, I'll take a photo in moment - do you want a pic of the label? or the connections?
