With this being very topical atm i thought it might be best to start a thread.

What do people think of the skegness venue - time for a change?

Now with skegness I think its a great venue, cheap, plenty to do and good point of a meet for most people here.

When considering somewhere else you need to realise that it needs to be reasonible in price, plenty to do and to last ideally fri - mon.

I personally do NOT want to go to pontins, they are crap holes and from what i have heard the best standard of accom is what butlins have as their ghetto suite ;)

Minehead Butlins was suggested before but it might be a bit far for some people minehead clicky - I have been there before and personally prefer it to Skegness. Its not far off the motorway either.

I havent been to any haven parks so I cant comment on that.

Camping weekend? Maybe not as main event, could ruin the holiday if its crap weather.

Blackpool - Location is good. Plenty to do but accommodation might be a difficulty and also costs the earth to do stuff and would be a very expensive weekend.

TBH i prefer the butlins venues but lets get some suggestions up and see what we can sort out for next year

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

From: Wakefield,West Yorkshire

To: Minehead,Somerset

Distance: 255.7 miles

Time: 4 hr 38 min

tis a long long drive to minehead? someone said the other day was near the lake district but isn't obviously.

we would probably drive the distance as can share the driving and stuff between us and is over a few days so more worthwhile than doing such a long drive for a day.

would prefer somewhere a little bit closer but will see what comes up.:)

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

for minehead:

Estimated duration:
4 hours, 21 minutes
Departure time:
10:00
Estimated arrival time:
14:21
Total distance:
245.1 miles (394.5 km)

to skegness:

Estimated duration:
2 hours, 43 minutes
Departure time:
10:00
Estimated arrival time:

will speak to frank when he gets home, the stilo is his car after all :D

and will see what othe ideas come up in the mean time.

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

i have no problem travelling to minehead as it is all motorway - it would take me same sort of time as getting to skeggy

i vote for a change of venue next year, skegness is great but 3 years on the run it starts to get stale

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

Gotta say I'm royally gutted that I couldnt have made this!!
And reading post's and seeing pic's this would've been my sort of weekend!!

I'll be up for next one for sure!! (y)

Anywhere will do..

Southend?? for a cruise too??
Not that its about the distance of course... He he!

skeggy was over 4 hours for us, and people say its down south

minehead is 5 hours from me, an not on a nice straight motorway :( but i will be up for it :slayer:

pontins sucks
all havens i have been to are caravans and the parks have public rights of way, so cars can get damaged.

i wont go to blackpool :nono:

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

Only ever been to Havens @ Cleethorpes and it wasn't a haven when i went but it is right next door to Pleasure Island.

Agree that the chalet thing is more comfortable for everyone...not sure how long tents would stay pitched with crazydaves obession to Feng Shui, would have to get hime some treatment first. :nerner:

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

skeg was 3 and 1/2 to 4 hours for me  and minehead looking at map will be similar anyway

but imo skeggy has run its course, has been bril, but this year just didnt feel like there was so much to do, as it had done in previous years (n) but thats probably because like a few others i've been to every skeg

Plus i dont want to be in any more trouble with security guy  :p

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

Well Minehead is about 150 miles from Reading and estimated to take about 3 hours.

Skeggy is 180 miles from Reading although it was 220 miles for me because I picked up Pete on the way there and the journey took about 5 hours.

I would be happy to do Skeggy again next year or I would be just as happy to do Milehead.

I think we should stick to one of the Butlins locations rather than any of the competetion.

I must admit I was pleasently surprised with the accommodation and surroundings of Skeg considering it cost £40 per person plus spending money.

Me and Gaz were a little bit disappointed that none of the pubs/clubs served Fosters :( but we survived :D

So I say we do Skeg again next year but this was my first time and I can imagine that its getting a bit past it for the forum members who have been going for the last few years.

At the end of the day as long as its not somewhere stupidly far away and it doesnt cost the earth then Im happy with where ever, after all the whole point of the weekend is catching up with old friends and making new ones. We can do that anywhere

Re: Forum weekender - time for a change?

think we would probably go but could proably do with it being a little bit earlier in the year as i will be starting my placement year from uni and wont be able to have time off at the beginning of it.

Dah! Not too much earlier, I wanna make it back for this one ;) I should be back 31st August(ish) - though I said that this year :D

Blackpool is a big no from me anyway, like a 6 hour drive or so
