Question Marea 20v cam belt

My Marea estate needs a cambelt & tensioner change. The only local garage who can do it is the Fiat garage who will do it by the book - 10 hours at £57/hour + parts + vat. I've looked through the forum on this subject, but I'm still unsure if real savings can be made going to a specialist who will do it without removing the engine. Can anyone recommend such a garage in the Northwest - ideally around Liverpool, Warrington, Manchester ?

Can't recommend a garage up there mate but make sure you get the water pump changed at the same time as for the £40 outlay it's a worthwhile investment.

BTW, Fiat dealers know that they can do the job in 4 hours without taking out the engine so I would challange your dealer to let you watch them do it.

Re: Marea 20v cam belt

Hi,

I've previously recommended my local Fiat specialists - Duttons in Birkenhead, 0151 652 5759.
Labour costs £39 p/h I think. Nice setup, friendly and competent.

Re: Marea 20v cam belt

Hello

I would recommend James Twist Garage as this was where I had the timing belt changed in June last year. The cost was £275.

Regards
Rog

Re: Marea 20v cam belt

I'd endorse Richard-HGT on HEATH ROAD GARAGES ( Alfie ). He is ex-Mangoletsi (Knustsford) and did a great job on rebuilding my mates 156 engine after the little ends went just outside the warranty.

Last time I was there (picking my mate up who was having a full service) there was a Ferrari in being serviced. If someone trusts him that much

Re: Marea 20v cam belt

Hello, I think my cam belt needs changing on my Marea Weekend 2.0 as its squeeeeling like a pig (after reading other posts mine is well over due although had it serviced recently and they never mentioned this). Is it possible to tighten to stop the noise while i get the readies together by adjusting the tensioner? Can anyone recomend a good garage in Doncaster? I've had the car 3 yrs now with no problems up until now.
Brake pads also need doing. Is this an easy job? My mechanical skills are out the window these days. I look in the engine bay and nearly lay a log. Its all changed since my capri days.

Cheers

Russ

Re: Marea 20v cam belt

Hi Lock & Stock,

Suggest you get cam belt done asap as if it goes then it will cost very big bucks!! Wouldn't suggest tightening anything if it is worn already this may be the think to break it.

Are you sure the squealing isn't the fan belt? Worth an initial check anyway as you probably can do that yourself
