Has anyone used - Servicing Stop (as seen on dragons den)

mmmm seems alot of very high scores for some of my local garages, one review said very clean & tidy which (as a daily vistor there) I know just isn't true! Another advertises services that they do not do (they sub-contract it out to another garage across he street, I know because I carried out this work!) however if the customer is satisfied then that can only be a good thing.

ATA garages are not just dealers but independents so any of them are 'capable' of ripping someone off just as non-ATA garages are.

What I dont like about the ATA is the techs sign a code of conduct but why doesn't the garage owner/director etc?

I think Servicing Stop customer service was outstanding .I found them on Google search, as I was looking to service my car but finding it hard to take time out of my busy schedule.
They promptly picked up my FIAT Punto. Few hours later I got a call from them regarding some additional work required, the guy over phone was very patient and explained me about the break drum which needed to be replaced though I felt the price quoted was bit of high. But considering that guarantee they give of parts and labour for one year I believe they would be using genuine parts. I got extra benefits like free car wash and vacuum.
My experience with them compared to the local garages I have used was much better. Think the guys in garages hardly explain anything about the kind of work required. I had a feeling they don’t like us asking questions and really doubt the quality of parts as need to replace them same part again as there was no guarantee on either labour or parts. I think this time I had made right decision by going to Servicing Stop.
Yeah, they have delivered my car at office but I had to wait extra 30 minutes. (They apologised for it!!!)
Overall good experience and I won’t hesitate to recommend them.

Yet again, bit random. Your first post on the forum and it's to plug this servicing stop, why join a forum just to plug a garage. Me thinks ya work for em (n)

I do like the way on this thread that there are two brand new members plugging this service stop with there very first post and suprisingly never posting again.
They have got to be truely awfull if they have to create there own positive feedback. Those two posts should be deleted because they are miss leading people might actualy belive they are genuin :D

Just a note about goodgaragescheme, i bought a car from Taylor North Shields (TNS) member of good garage scheme. When I test drove the engine management light was on, told them to fix the problem and reset the light and provide me with the details and I would buy the car. Everything ok on pick up day but 4 months later the car was smoking badly. Took it to a specialists and they said that the engine management light had been on for 11,000 miles. When they looked behind the instrument cluster they found a huge blob of black silicon covering the light. Car had a blocked DPF, knackered injectors etc. After a lengthy trading standards battle they paid out for repairs. All I would say is that the good garage scheme means didly squat in the eyes of trading standards etc and seemingly in the eyes of those affiliated to it.

Exactly and this is the problem with any garage or any such scheme, it's open to abuse. If I opened up a garage first thing I would do is get all my mates to recommend me on good-garage-scheme. The ATA scheme is pretty useless aswell as the techs (although perhaps brilliant and well trained) are bound by their managers rules. Take the above example, did a good well trained tech put the blob of black silicon over the light or was he told to?

I would ask know good tech to do work 'on the side', cut out all the leeches (Tech gets 1/10th of the hourly labour rate) and get a proper job done at a proper price.

Bad experience so what? Show me a garage that has never provided a bad experience! Goodgaragescheme should be taken for what it is... a suggestion, remember caveat emptor... still applies, you phone up, ask questions, go visit, ask questions & take your pick. There are no guarantees of anything in life, the screw up on your car could have been done by the previous owner to trade it in.

Foxy, I dont understand your attitude, yeah I had a bad experience with a garage, we all have, however I was just pointing out that just because a garage is affiliated with a scheme (goodgaragescheme) doesn't mean its reputable. Plus if you read my post it details that the engine management light was on at test drive but when I bought the car was off. Incidentally the garage admitted that they sub contracted work and the sub contractor must have put the silicon over the light. Surely that mean you are lead into a false sense of security with a garage affiliated with a scheme that contracts work to any mothers brother!!!

It's not attitude, I wouldnt give all dogs a bad name just because one bit me...

For those on here who are looking for a garage to do some work they cannot do themselves goodgaragescheme gives them some options they previously didnt have.

I'm sure I could find words & ways to put everyone off anything If I thought there was value in it. I learned a lesson on vehicle car buying a long time back... never view a car in the wet... x10 times worse if it's dark as well!

So I never did that again. Sorry you got a bad 'un in your experience, but with the goodgaragescheme you can report it at least... you did of course didnt you? They shouldnt be in the scheme doing dodgy deals.

Foxy, sorry not trying to cause an argument. The point I am trying to put over is that of course not all goodgargescheme garages are con men. Far from it. Just stating my experience with one that was affiliated. It was a poor experience and as a warning to others not to assume that a garage is any good just by a program they are signed up to. Might sound like a naive approach but im sure many people will see "Joe Bloggs Garage - Member of GoodGarageScheme" advertised outside, look up GoodGarageScheme on the internet, think hmm that sounds good, i'll trust them. By the way I did report them, 3 times, on each occasion they said they would send an assessor out to the garage and send me a report. Im still waiting 9 months on for the first report. Trading Standards are following up the case for me.

No worries bigcul1 I'm not offended :) Maybe name & shame the garage that did you bad then? Typical that these schemes dont do what they promise to, but it is still the Customer who needs to choose who works on their car carefully, exactly the same with builders etc... as the TV program Rogue Traders shows.

No problems fella. ;) The garage was TNS (Taylor North Shields). Yes I agree that you have to choose wisely but in the cases highlighted by the excellent Rogue Traders and Watchdog, many dont!

Anyway for servicing in the North East I could highly recommend FAST (Stockton) and strangely enough Halfords Autocentre in Middlebrough (gave me excellent service although I havent taken my Punto there as I found FAST). Of the dealers I think GMD (Based at Pity Me) were very helpful, knocked a load of money off a diagnostic they did for me and fitted a battery free of charge. (Could have done it myself but bought it from Andrew Pages next door and didnt have a spanner with me! lol) :D

Ok, so I wasn't sure what to make of this company and thinking that I needed an MOT urgently as my tax was about to expire, I decided to try this company out. I think the gist of this is that they act as a middle man between you and a local MOT station/garage. I had a £24 offer of only MOT as I wanted my tax sorting urgently and also was not sure I felt happy getting the service at an unknown garage.

I can't comment about the service option therefore, but the MOT worked out fine and just as well because I discovered that I already had an MOT which had another few months left to go on it (DOH!) I was cursing myself when I discovered the MOT document, but took solace in the fact that I hadn't paid all that much for the new one.

The garage called me to check when they could come, and as they have a driver come to collect your car, they needed to check if they could leave their car at mine without parking restrictions. They had a 2 hour window to come collect it and came towards the end of it. Word of warning....do tell them if your car is out of tax, as they can bring special plates down and so avoid problems since the police seem to be out at every opportunity raising cash, and probably would not care that your car is on its way for its MOT and will ba taxed later that day.

The car passed, no extra costs and I was kept informed by email and phone of its progress etc. I didn't get my car back in the 4-5 pm slot but more like 6.30 pm, but as the garage was actually some distance away and it was Friday rush hour, I was not surprised.

Payment was online - you definitely need a debit or credit card, and as they don't release your car until it is paid, if you want your car back quickly, you should get that paid as soon as they invoice you (by email) as it seemed to take a little while before it showed up on the system.

So, all in all I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was curteous, my car was not stolen (I did have my reservations) and no one tried to fleece me with fake problems.

never heard of this( don't watch that kind of TV..),

sounds o.k. if you've NO idea about local garages,
but if you DID have a problem, you'd be at their mercy..!!

also odd that they don't do "collections" with a people carrier full of drivers - that's the NORM..,

I'll stick to a £39 MOT at a volvo main dealer + their smart premises(+ Nice Coffee),
15 MOT's = 1 fail + Zero fuss / bother, (14 day FREE re-test= and a free free days parking!)
and I save on parking in town the day it's there..!!

It also makes ME feel a LOT better off as a FIAT driver - with the huge £££ tales of woe from the Volvo owners,

Charlie

Is this post a wind up?
