Hi,
time to give a little back to the forum after getting lots of useful information from reading the postings. Here is a story of how my Punto got fixed today.
Situation: 2003 Punto 1.2 8V
For a while Airbag lights x 2 (driver and passenger) permanently on and horn not working.
Sounds like something happened with the wiring to the steering wheel? But it was not. Two unrelated issues.
Horn not working - Never seen this before in a car. Found that when pressing the horn the relay was clicking. quick trip to Halford and £9.99 later a new horn fitted and working fine. (looked identical)
Airbag ligts - Phoned main dealers in Milton Keynes area and they wanted £90 for running diagnostics and an additional £45 for resetting the lights plus what ever extra they could find to fix.....:bang::yuck:
Found this great little independent garage in Milton Keynes, JS Motoring 01908 237800 (they have a good web site as well)
Young chap that was pleasant and most helpful + knew what he was talking about without waffel or bull.
He got the Snappon Diagnostig tool out and 10 mins later (whilst explaining how it was working) the light was reset. The cause was the passenger airbag swith-off had had a blip but there were no issues now. After checking through the rest of the diagnostics he asked for £20 and said that if the litghts comes on again, I should just come down and he would reset it without extra charge!!:worship: Amazing. In 25 years, I have never had this treatment in a garage before.
Lessons to learn:
1. Airbag light has to be reset with a diag tool. removing battery does not do it. The cause of the trigger is stored in the control unit and you need to check it out just in case it is a malfunctioning bag.
2. Halford if not that bad.
3. Phone main dealer first, then find a small independent guy that cares about his customers.
best regards
