£80 for removing dashboard

Hi there,

A month ago I took my 93/L Cinquecento to have a new speedo cable fitted, after three weeks I had given up searching for a part and asked the garage to put the dashboard back together.

So I rung up the garage today and they said it was done (ie put back together), I asked how much it cost and they said £80. I just wondered is this fair? Does it take that long to remove the dashboard and put it back.

Re: £80 for removing dashboard

its a fiddley job to be fair. alot of clips and wiring that needs to be clipped back into place, so id say it was fair as long as they have actually done it correctly and not just bunged it back on lol

Re: £80 for removing dashboard

Its ok panic over!

I got to the garage and they charged me £40, not too bad I suppose.

However when I drove off, half of the dashboard didn't work, ie fuel gauge, indicators, beam, heater light. However oil, lights, and battery light did.

So I took the dashboard apart (took about 20 mins), and they had put the connectors back the wrong way round, the red one was in the white one and vice versa, despite there being a red dot where the red one should go!

They also parked the car away from the garage, so if I had walked home that way I could of just driven it away with my spare key!

Re: £80 for removing dashboard

if you mean the block with the speedo in then yes, they just removed it, to unplug speedo cable.
