Has anyone else succumbed to the addictive block bashing of this game?

My 3 (adult) kids all play it so I have now been inducted into the noobs hall of bashers, luckily my eldest runs his own server so I can play online without being greifed etc as I can go a long distance from the spawn.

Me and my best man used to play it, built a huge house with a railway, automatic sliding glass doors, swimming pool secret basement rooms with a library/enchanting thing...

Then it updated and the climate moved so our formally temperate zone was icy and we could no longer grow crops...so got griefed by mine craft. We stopped playing then as had spent to long on it already!

I play on my own - in creative.

I enjoy the building rather than the collecting stuff lol

I played with the other half before we moved, not set up her Mac since then so not played it. However, the gaming community I'm also a member of is/are in the process of setting up a server we're just trying to decide which mods (if any, i prefer vanilla) we want to use. I'm the opposite of SeanW though, while I enjoy building I don't feel like I've earned the right to build the thing if I haven't dug them up myself.

Yeah half the fun is getting the stuff together to do what you want to do. Eg the Xbox has an achievement for travelling 100 squares or whatever the map width is by mine cart, it took a month of play to get that much iron. Then there was the the glass doors..mine craft wiring is a joke!

Pretty sure Xbox achievements were only available in survival mode though.

Last night I got mobbed by the 2 server admins ganging up on me, greifed my house while I was digging for ores etc.

Damn kids, I'm gonna cut their internet off :)
lol.

No chance of that, one has routines to build everything and can dismantle my creations in seconds & the other owns the account I'm using lol

I do however have admin access to the router & the switch they are connected to lol

Now I'm off to play roller coaster creation then methinks it will be Thunderbird 4 :)

I had a chunk generator and you could just import maps. My sister got very cross when I imported the Taj Mahal over her "castle". :p

I was boss at Hunger Games servers though!

If you play this look for "optifine".

It turns it from a blocky display to a game that can grace any PC, the FPS increases and the whole display is better, I can see through water now, leaves look like leaves etc.

Optifine was a beautiful mod. Although if you got a bit carried away with other mods I quickly found things crashing. everywhere.

There's a texture pack that makes everything really minimal - flat colours, little to no texture. It looks super effective.

I wanted to try this but installing mods gives me a headache and I quickly got nowhere. Help? :(

Edit: I've got MC 1.8.8, the corresponding Optifine version and MagicLauncher 1.3.1. See screenshot below, whenever I even try to log in or test it though I get an error.

I'm now doing quite well, I have been able to survive for a few weeks on an anarchy server (2 b unnamed else it gets flogged with more users again) and have become quite a miner.

Not so hot on building bases though, they are quite boxy....
Still, I'll get better.

Apparently the lad is going to build a server and run it from home instead of paying the fees for a poor service. We shall see lol

Hahah, I found the first thing I did to make buildings less boxy was cut the corner of each wall off or something.. Made it look kinda round! :p

Well, I'm currently peed off.

I have been playing on a vanilla server over xmas mining and amassing loads of stuff (been a good learning experience) and now I find that at the imminent new software release the server map will be reset so we will lose everything.
On top of that I have been playing on a really old messed up map that got advertised so loads joined it and it's well laggy.

I think I'm gonna return to my lads server and get him to de op me so I'm not tempted to jump into creative mode.

The wife is a Minecraft widow - even getting an Xbox1 has not tempted me away :)
