Re: Mgs4

ive got my copy put aside at work ready for tomorrow.
I wasnt too impressed by the beta, the matches were always too small and controls were a bit fiddly but I suppose once I adjusted to them it would be half decent!

Re: Mgs4

Apparently its the most cutscene heavy game of all time...so maybe this time when you kill a guard you'll see a short video of his back story....and the wife and kids and he leaves behind...oh and his dog and pets and get a chance to read the novel that is now unfinished becuase of you. Hideo Kojima games...where backstory is ALL gameplay must fit in around it...sorry I get really bored with large exsposition scenes everytime you knock off a boss...you may have shot them to kingdom come but they still have the energy to deliver a long monologue.

Re: Mgs4

Tbh I like storyline as long its not totally superfluous to and in the way of the gameplay a good story keeps a game moving, you want to move on to the next part to find out what happens. However when the game brings everything to a crashing halt regularly its not good game design you shouldn't get so of bored them you want to skip them.

I dont like skipping the story either, was just suggesting that you could skip if you got bored!
This one does seem to be a bit cut scene heavy but then again its designed to play out like a film and how would they be able to do that without the cutscenes?
So many inconsistencies relating back to previous games aswell, I didnt think both meryl and otacon survived the shadow moses incident???

Re: Mgs4

Otacon was the nerdy scientist bloke who gave you the stealth suit and came on to you if you'd failed the torture scene that put you onto a track which ended up with Meryl dead? In the first MGS on PS1? Cinematic gameplay can be done without massive cutscenes think GTAIV, the longest cutscene is maybe 2 mins max but they give you what you need to know to know whats going on, then any other plot points are communicated via your mobile phone or through in car conversations as you drive to your destination or even via radio stations. The gameplay to cut scene ratio in guns of the patriots is nearly 50/50 thats not a game its an interactive movie.

Yep, thats the bloke. What happened if you escaped from the torture scene in mgs and meryl lived, I dont remember it saying anything about how Otacon escaped yet here they both are in MGS4!
How long til Grey Fox reappears???

Re: Mgs4

really? its absolutely awesome, gotta agree about the length of the cutscenes but (if you ignore the end one with big boss) they tie the storylines of the previous 3 games together perfectly!

fantastic game, theres no point comparing it to GTA IV or call of duty, it was never going to be as simple as COD4 or as "shut up i just want to pick up a prostitute or shoot someone" as GTA IV. more importantly the storyline is supposed to be involving and almost cinematic, sure they take it a step further than heavenly sword or uncharted did, but its still an amazing game.
