Got it today seems good fun, really liking the prince of persia style time reversal, handy if you make a mistake that would otherwise be a race ender..

Re: Race Driver: Grid

I got if for the PC on friday and it is awesome. the only thing stopping me playing it more is revising for my AS levels which are over in 2 days. The driving is really good and so is the multiplayer untill some idiot rams you off the road to their advantage.
overall a wicked game that i would buy again!

Was in Oxford street last week and an aston martin drove past with a dude in a race suit and a crash helmet on, thought it was the stig but about 5 other fast cars drove past with the same thing going on, caught up with them later and and it was the photo shoot for this game

It has catch up....NOOOO those unaware of catch up it is that really annoying rubber band effect on racing games i.e. you fall behind the other cars slow down you get ahead cars that were previously only tooling round on half throttle are all over you like a rash, annoying as F**k on the LE MANS circuit where you spend most of your time on the mulsanne straight blocking challenges from cars doing 5-10 mph more than you! Even identical porsche 911s! Also it plays dramatic music in the last minute of the race to set you on edge! EVIL EVIL BAST**DS

Re: Race Driver: Grid

Sounds like I'll not be bothering... Can't you turn catch-up off? Hardly fun when you're actually trying to race and it just 'makes up' laptimes for the other drivers.

This game could have been awesome but they just ignored the previous Race Driver/TOCA owners input and made a Fast and the Furious - just another crap racing style game.

I agree, for me BTCC2 was still the best game they've released.

To be fair, from the very start they said with this game they wanted to move away from the 'sim' reputation it had earned. And they have. it's very arcadey, not realistic at all, but it is great fun, and the graphics are just stunning.

Online freestyle drift is amazing, you and up to 11 others, in a small free roam environment, with a time limit to get the most points, has to be the most fun I've ever had in a online game.

Shame theers no BTCC championship in it

The 'sim' reputation was the whole reason people bought it instead of the 100s of arcade style games available already. They seem to have ended up in no man's land - a revised damage engine - but no pitstops to repair it. Lemans 24hr - but it's only 12 minutes and although you can do the 24hr in multiplayer - there's no tyre wear or pitstops again.. crash out and you're sat waiting for the other players to finish.

they could have got the drifting and everything in on a revised TRD3 engine - giving everyone the best of all worlds - but they didn't. Guess it's TRD3 for me until someone brings out something better.

Re: Race Driver: Grid

I think they were loosing a fighting battle, there always were lots more realistic sims out there like GTR, Live for Speed, and all that crap.

I think they really had to decide between going into hardcore sim and arcade. Arcade sells. And it sells well.

Re: Race Driver: Grid

Sounds like it is a bit of a let down bar the graphics.

Wanted to buy it as a realistic racing game to tie me over until the proper GT comes out.

Oh well!!

Re: Race Driver: Grid

They don't seem to realise though that far missing out on the Sim or Arcade market - they were nicely plugging a gap in the market for people who wanted a Sim that wasn't too difficult to play. I've bought every title in the series with the exception of the very first 'RaceDriver' which came out when I was at Uni - no funds for a gaming capable rig! Seems I'll be spending my money elsewhere now.
