XBOX 360 vs. PS3

I know this has been covered quite a few times here, but I'm still having trouble deciding which one is right for me

Firstly, the Wii is out of contention. I say this because the novelty of its controllers will wear off quite quickly, and its games are predominantly targeted at a younger audience. The PSP and DS are also out. Rarely would I get a chance to play games on the move, and with the games at roughly the same price as a XBOX 360 or PS3 game, I might as well get a decent console.

So its XBOX 360 vs. PS3.

I haven't had much experience with the XBOX, as I've previously owned a PS1 and PS2.

From a cost perspective, the XBOX 360 is a little cheaper by about AUD100 - 150. It also has a wider range of games as the PS3 came to this market only recently.

Another consideration is my lady, who will be playing it as well. Which of the two has more games that are suitable for females?

i suggest oyu decide yourself and read the many posts/threads all over the net.
each goes the same way and lists the pro's cons of both with a smattering of fanboys and haters thrown in

Personal opinion would be as a pure games machine buy a 360, there are more games out there for it, more good titles available as a result and you can pick up decent old stuff for peanuts, crackdown for e.g. However PS3 when the coders do their jobs properly does have a small graphical advantage, when they don't however it sucks badly, only really noticeable in HD on a big telly, also has built in wireless and a blu ray player.

Also 360 has games my GF likes Viva pinata, beautiful katamari e.t.c. also either one you get get lego star wars

If your lady is playing games might be worth reconsidering the Wii. I don't know much but it's the only console I've ever known woman to be interested in.

Nah mate it was the special edition one that came with the 'girls/camp mens version of the Xbox punto...rare car this one....thank god. Must have sold it on but kept the Xbox

That's a fair point, though what turns me off is how childish a lot of its games are.

The other consideration is the size of the TV. We'll be buying a new one soon and since we live in a small place (for now anyway), it won't be a huge one (max 32" I think), so wouldn't be as much fun with the Wii controller.

The novelty of pressing buttons to make characters do things wore off in the 80's.

Almost definetly get a Wii. My Supervisor actually asked her boyfriend for that as a valentines day present, she has been extatic about it ever since.

i say get both... i prefer the ps3 because i love mine, there may not be many game out yet, but there are some titles coming out soon that i will be spending money on....

or get a xbox-360 like me again, i got the xbox first as the ps3 was way too much, it is a good console but they do break easily (mine broke twice scince i got it), but there are a few tweeks they could have done, like free internet connection...

depends on what you want the console for....

if you want great graphic games then get a ps3

if you want a choice of game more then better quality then get an xbox-360...

We both desperately need to exercise more often so that's a good point.

Can't afford both mate.. the other thing to consider is my lifestyle won't allow me to be playing games all the time, so its more of a weekend thing.


The Wii is about AUD150 cheaper than the basic XBOX 360 and AUD300 off PS3, so I guess that's a big plus. Also its games are cheaper too. And I've been brought up playing Nintendo..

Its a tough one to decide!

so why not get a wii then there cheaper then both of the console and if it is just for weekends then it dont need to be that special... plus games are alot cheaper then both xbox and ps3....

i think ps3 and xbox are for hardcore gamers best of with something simple like the wii as you said....and the wii games are infact alot of fun to play alought they doo seems childish at times they are great for a bit of weekend fun...

yeah dont forget

GTA4 and MGS4 that what made me buy the ps3 in the first place....

Yeh I'm kind of swinging towards the Wii now..

There was a shortage of them around Christmas, not sure if its still the case now

Nonetheless still have some time to do more reading/research
