Probably because the kids that buy consoles couldn't actually afford it lol And the original PS generation have grown up and out of these things now. Doesn't really matter much to the bloke in the street but the markets like to hear things like this, PS3 sales probably have a major impact on Sonys share price.

Most people have been surprised by the popularity of the Wii, technologically pretty pap but has fun factor and said to be bought by people other than the smell bedroom acne crowd normally associated with consoles. Outsold everything by a mile, personally if I really wanted to go bowling or play tennis I'd go do it for real.

Having to sell the things i'd put a good chunk of recent PS3 sales down to people who'd been waiting for a price cut buying up the discontinued 60GB units, not wanting to be stuck with the 40GB ones which lose out on Backward compatibility, and the memory card readers e.t.c. they must have taken a fair bit out of them like cos there is actually half of a kilo difference in the weight of the two machines.
