Re: blue ray sux,hd dvd rawks

thanks for being an early adopter

The BDA has explained why early adopters of the format will not be rewarded for supporting the HD format in its earliest stages because the Blu-ray camp needed to "create momentum" in its battle against rival HD DVD.

Frank Simonis, the European chairman of the Blu-ray Disc Association, was the one who spoke out about why new standards (such as Profile 1.1) took so long to hit the market.

"We needed to create momentum and get the players on the market", he said.

"If we had postponed launch to add in the hardware for the latest features, we would not be in the situation we have today."

Most early adopters who do not have the latest "Final Profile" will not be able to take full advantage of the format and its additional bonus features, without purchasing a new Blu-ray player. The new profile will not be available as a firmware update for older players, he added.

Re: blue ray sux,hd dvd rawks

cant go wrong with a normal dvd on a dvd player with hdmi in my eyes. that way you dont have to pay outlandish prices for hd dvds!

plus most films i aqquire (totally legal) on my pc come in hd nowdays anyway so once you burn them the quality is mostly there.

p.s does burning to divx format loose quality?

Re: blue ray sux,hd dvd rawks

im not hugely fussed for now as im still on crt.
however for me i would prefer hd dvd as blueray is ridden with DRM which is never good.
each new profile just adds more security which brigs on more limitations IMO

Re: blue ray sux,hd dvd rawks

I use HDDVD, They are region free and have had all the extras that bluray are bringing in now for ages.

I just hope HD DVD can pull through in the end and come out the winner.

Re: blue ray sux,hd dvd rawks

Having viewed both formats on my Toshiba LCD, using PS3 Bluray and 360 HD dvd, I can say that the Bluray was a little on the grainy side, aside from that there was no difference.

I now have neither format just relying on normal DVD, and it will remain that way till a format finally gets decided.

Re: blue ray sux,hd dvd rawks

to be honest blue ray is a better system from what i understand with plenty of capabilitie for the future due to it's greater capacity. (though at the expence of early players from the sounds of things...(hopes ps3 isn't included))

but it's still too expensive if they could make it a reasonable price HD DVD wouldn't of stood a chance. hopefully if it becomes the standard format it'll bring prices right down.
