360 Network Settings

My lil bro is finding it difficult to find game servers on xBox Live.

The 360 is connected the Internet Via a Gateway.

360 > CAT5 > Switching Hub > CAT5 > PC > CAT5 > Modem > Internet

The 360 passes all the Network Tests but the NAT (Network Address Translation) has changed from Moderate to Strict.

I'm not sure if I have any control over this I disabled the Firewall to test but no change.

I'm of the understanding that this setting is affected because of the Gateway and the Protocals that NAT prevent while using Internet Connection Sharing.

Is there anyway around this or is it a Buy New Hardware fix?

Re: 360 Network Settings

Get yourself a Netgear DG834 or similar router, wired if poss. Have your PC on 1 port, and the 360 using the others, will hook straight up then. My Nat settings are the best possible. I had this problem when using separate hubs and gateways, the 360 don't like it.

Re: 360 Network Settings

So I'd plug the Modem into the Router instead of the Gateway Machine and hook up all Internet Machines through the Router?

Yes, far less hassle. However I have the speedtouch modem router, 1 pc connected through USB, 360 Via cable, Wii and 2 laptops connected wireless and still room for an extra 4 cables to be run which I have done to various rooms and down the garden in the workshop, just in case the WIFI fails. All my stuff hooked up hassle free.

Re: 360 Network Settings

My NAT goes "STRICT" from time to time (no idea why) All I do is turn my (BT)Home Hub of, then on again. Nat goes back to "OPEN"
