another 360 model?

http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/toshi...360-312930.php

Toshiba Working On HD DVD Xbox 360?
>> From kotaku.com:
A pretty convincing rumor reports that Microsoft is teaming up with Toshiba to make a new Xbox 360 to compete with Sony's HD-enticing Blu-ray PS3. Here are the potential proposed specs that would come standard in the new device:
- HD DVD
- 1080p w/HDMI (doesn't sound much different)
- Wireless Networking
- dual HD tuners with program guide (no dvr?)
- MP3 player dock (possibly a new open standard ala ipod...won't happen, Zune is USB)
- Toshiba is also exploring a 40-inch TV that can dock the 360
- This same TV dock could allow for more hard drive or component swappability
- Expected in late 2008 or CES 2009
for me,i just dont see it.
maybe for the next round of consoles but is there enough market for this?
the likes of the panasonic Q was never a big seller using the established DVD format.

M$/toshiba would surely struggle to get the price low enough considering how the PS3 has struggled on price point.
games would still be on DVD9 unless M$ want to do a huge backtrack and create a massive 2 tier market

however tihs is what both sony and M$ want in the end.a game/media hub.
particuallry with both pushing a different HD format to try and dominate

Re: another 360 model?

Its no different to whats happened in the past, granted none have been a runaway success, and none have really gone for the home media hub, but collaboration between two companies to create something a little different has been done before.

JVC Wondermega/X'Eye
Amstrad Mega PC
Aiwa Megacd
Pioneer LaserActive

Re: another 360 model?

yes but so far into the 360's lifespan with new models already being released? remember this wont really have any amazing features.
zune can connect to xbox
new 360 has HDMI
HD dvd
wireless networking again done
okay TV tuners and stuff but looking at the end of 2008/2009 is a long way off
by then HD dvd players will most likely be hitting sub £200

Re: another 360 model?

i see your point custard but tbh if they sold it i would buy it. one less item to have under my tv then. and one less thing to have stuck to it as an add on (wireless dongle)

Re: another 360 model?

they could but that would alienate a huge 360 market share and MS have been on record many times saying it wont happen.
unless they seriously discounted the HD DVD drive(and im talking sub £50)it would be a big mistake.
best to wait and use that on the next xbox.i bet some at sony wish they had gone the same route as M$ on an optional media only drive

as for buying it it needs ot be viable to sell in sufficient numbers and given how far into the 360's lifespan it would be you would have a lot already owning 360/ps3.blueray users are very unlikely to buy another locked format and would go for a multiformat drive machine.
a lot of people will already have bought another 360 to get HDMI so buying a 3rd maybe a bit to much for the mass market than pure gamers

Re: another 360 model?

I'd be interested if it was a quiet running good looking machine, even the 360 Elite is still noisy and not very nice looking in my opinion, I preferred my off white one in the looks department, thankfully I have it in a dark TV stand so it don't stand out too much.

Re: another 360 model?

Well everything I have under my TV other than my Wii is Piano Black, including the TV actually, and the Elite sticks out like a sore thumb with it's dull matt grey/black (in comparison to the TV) finish, the best thing about it is the large HDD and the HDMi connection for the 1080p, the noise levels are not much better than the standard 360 so I now use my Theater system for the movies and crank the sound right up for playing games. The Wii actually looks really understated and compliments everything nicely, kinda drawing your eye away from the 360. I am very tempted too get the airbrush out and give the Elite a good seeing to

Re: another 360 model?

Toshiba says no to new Xbox 360 HD DVD rumour
>> From news.yahoo.com:
An Australian website has reported Toshiba as saying Microsoft will release an Xbox 360 with a built-in HD DVD drive by the end of next year.

As with every 'Microsoft to add HD DVD to 360' rumour - currently at about one a month - Microsoft is dismissing the claims. But so is Toshiba.
A spokesperson for Tosh told us: 'It's got nothing to do with us. But we know Microsoft doesn't want to include the HD DVD drive so as not to limit the user's experience.'

Re: another 360 model?

ummmmm

Toshiba denies denying Xbox 360 with built-in HD DVD rumor
>> From engadget.com:
Ok, here's a strange one. Remember how yesterday, Toshiba supposedly nixed the rumor of a Tosh-branded Xbox 360 with built-in HD DVD[see news]? Well, get this: we were contacted by Nelsom Bostock Communications, Toshiba's PR company (in the UK at least), and asked to take down the post (which we haven't). According to NBC, "The comment that ran initially on stuff.tv in relation to the Xbox 360 was a misquote." The quote that Toshiba's PR company wants us to run says, "Toshiba has no comment to make on this matter. The Xbox 360 is not a Toshiba product."
