Console Versions

Back in the days of Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Master System, Choosing a console was easy.

I like Sonic the Hedgehog so I'm going to purchase a SEGA. I like Mario so I'm going to Purchase a Nintendo.

Then they had the SEGA Master System 2 which was a smaller Master System.

They took out the card slot for games on Card and the reset button from the Console or something like that.

With the Arrival of the Mega Drive and SNES it was the same story. The consoles from the same manufacturer were effectively the same.

With the Saturn, Dream Cast, N64, PS1 & PS2 there were only one of each. I know they all had been revised at some point but these revisions were software revisions and made the slightest bit of dofference to your purchase in a store.

WHY THE FUNK are several versions of an xBox and the PS3? What is the need?

You Build one and the Consumer has NO CHOICE and no one complains and everything gets sold because nobody is waiting to see which one you are going to come up with next.

Why not just scrap consoles and concentrate on control pads for Personal Computers? it seems to make more sense.

Re: Console Versions

Until recently Sony only sold one version of the PS3 and have released the cheap version to address the cost issue many have complained about.

As for XBox we'll just have to wait for Custard to tell us why Microsoft has to sell so many different versions......

now now.dont forget they dropped hardware emulation before making europe pay more for it
there is or have been 20,40,60 & 80gb PS3 models and its not even been out 1 year yet
20gb dropped
60gb dropped in various regions
USA only has 80gb,UK has a pared down 40gb model.been a busy 11 months for the ps3.
a blueray seperate drive would have made it so much easier for them

Not in the UK though.

Anyone remember the Amstrad GX4000, there was only one version of that console, the flop edition

Add ons are different. They are not a Separate console which is the same.

After you purchase your console that does everything everyone elses does you can choose to add on to it. Thats completely different.

By buying the stand alone old school console you would not be punished later on. You could punish yourself by not upgrading but you didn't have to if you didn't want/need to.

What do you do when your 360/PS3 runs out of Disc Space? You think bo1lox I should have bought that more expensive one.

An addition to a CART is different. You buy the game it works you doon't need to updrage anything.

Even Perfect Dark on the N64 would run without the Graphics updrage and even then, if you wanted to play the game to its fullest, it was still the users choice AFTER the initial standalone machine had been purchased.

Even though the Elite and Pro are special editions, while they are on the market it makes a console purcahse a lot more complicated.

Its like the, Do I go for the Intel Core Duo 3.2GHX with a GF7900 or the AMD 64 3000+ with the ATi something muguffin?

Consoles should never have come to that stage, its just not right.

Re: Console Versions

hard drive add ons are available so it doesnt really matter? 20gb is loads unless you are downloading HD films
M$ offered the core (with no hard drive) to make a lower start price available

doesnt matter what 360/ps3 you buy.they all play the any game available on their respctive format so its not so complicated

M$ slipped up not adding HDMI fro start so have rectified it and are adding it to all models.
the elite & halo 3's are purely special editions really

console buyers are not that thick.

the only feature thats seperates old/new 360's are the HDMI ports and these are not upgradable.
sony just keeps trimming stuff out of the PS3,soon it will be a calculator
