xbox360 + media centre help

anyone know how this works? i have a media centre laptop but for some reason the two wont talk to each other.

my laptop it visa media centre? it seems to want to connect but then says there is an error and try again.

yep done that. says on the tv 'the xbox has experienced a failure and was disconnected from the media centre based pc. would you like to re connect?'

then it tries again and then gives the same message!


on the laptop i get 'extender did not connect'
the extender was set up correctly but has failed to connect to this computer. try the following'

Seems odd, when I was running Vista, my old 360 connected straight away, no downloads were needed. Now back on XP MCE, I did have to download media extender and update XP to rollup pack2.
Are you running a wired or wireless network? I'm running a wired network through my house via a Netgear DG834 router and have had no probs at all. Even my old PS3 (Traded for an Elite) hooked up no trouble, once I enabled file sharing in MediaPlayer!!!

wireless using a home hub. it will stream my music and pictures as it sees my laptop as a 'standard pc' but wont connect to it via media centre.
