Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

it must be lockable to use on a softmodded xbox.
softmods have to boot the M$ bios and this checks for a locked hard drive on boot.
http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list

never had probs with WD or maxtors in my xbox's

ive never used Xbhdm as i do an eeprom flash and lock via a modded xbox

do you use xbox live?

Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

I don't use Live, and I don't wanna go down the chip route (depending on chip I would have to flash the bios to support 32k clusters ) , so would deffo need to lock, had a search of Xbox-Scene and seems some of the newer WD drives don't support the locking feature.

Already looked on that link, one guy has done two drives (same model as mine) but he says he's used, lockhd, which I think he was getting confused with Xbhdm.

Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

i wouldnt use a drive that large in the xbox, its way beyond what the file system was designed for - and last time i looked there was no way to defragment it.

why not just put all the media on the PC and access via the network?

Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

Quite a few people have popped a 500Gb and 750Gb drives in thier Xbox with no problems on Xbox-Scene long as I format it to 32K clusters with Xbpartitioner should be fine.

I already stream most of my music & videos to my Xbox, but my laptop is dying because of it. Cos when I am not online, I am on my Xbox. So looking for a way to ease the pain on my laptop.

Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

How about a network hard drive?

Then both the Xbox and the laptop are connected to it and not each other.

what are you talking about needing to flash the bios for 32k clusters, its one flash done over network and its done.
if i had the choice its chip every time.bung an xecuter x2 in there, flash the bios with the latest bios and its done.
softmods are okay and i use one in my spare machine but as i have chipped machines its no worry as i can always recover it if it goes belly up especially with eeproms backed up on the pc.

Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

no real benifit to you arc,its running.
however the new bios may help avoid issues with newer builds of XBMC
x2 bios updates are pretty much done so no need for constant updating

Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

Well, I decided I am going to buy it and see if it locks.

If it doesn't, I'll look into getting a chip.

Re: Upgrading Xbox Hard Drive

Personal choice for Xbox's is Samsung Spinpoints.
100% Silent. Fantastic drives.

Chip is a lot less hassle than softmod imo.
