Colin McRae Dirt

Anyone tried the demo yet then ?

Personally I thought it was brilliant and if I simply had to choose between this and forza then Colin McRae will get my money, stunning visuals and great physics engine

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

Bit off topic but i still got a pic of him driving his first Scottish rally in a Talbot Sunbeam when he drove for the hamilton motor club.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

Yeah I've been playing the Demo.
Very impressive. I'd still go with Forza first tho, I can understand why people will prefer Dirt but I prefer the racing style in Forza.
Dirt is definatley better in the Graphics department.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

I have tried the demo on the PC, the visuals look great, I especially like the replay mode. But the controls and handling of the cars is atrocious, very overreactive and lacking any natural feel, especially the brakes. I hope that gets fixed up by release.

Troy.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

The PC demo is well dodgy on my PC, my PC should be able to play it fairly well but it keeps freezing on the menus.

To be honest, every Colin McRae game since 3.0 has had dodgy menus on my pc

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

Well here's an interesting addition to the dilemma.

I tried both games with the force feedback wheel, CMD is good once you get the wheel set up correct in the control options which iirc is just a case of putting the slider for steering saturation all the way to the right, so instead of the default 80% it goes up to 100%. It makes cornering more precise and stops over steering making it more like being in the real car.
It is a lot of fun with the rally cars and is actually hard work but when it comes to driving those buggies you may want to forget about using the wheel, it's extremely hard and you have to be so gentle with the movement.

As for Forza with the wheel, all I can say is, WOW Bloody brilliant, extremely precise and loads more fun than the pad, cornering is just perfect with loads of realism especially on fast corners. The first time I played it with the wheel, I got knocked off on the start straight, turned around and basically had to start from the back after that, but I managed to catch up the pack and overtake the first car on the last corner to take first place Perfect driving lines are so much more possible with the wheel

I am deffo getting both games now.

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

after playing FM2 and Dirt demos, i dont see why the big hype about FM2 im not to fussy on it.

Yesterday i bought Dirt, i love this game unless you put in on hard its a little simple to play at frist, on hdtv 1080 it looks great, im really impressed with it, can see me completing it within a month thou.

imo this is the best racing game since gt3 on the ps2

Dirt also has a few Fiat baised italian races, its a bit mad pairing a Stratos up against a 131 abarth, it also has the new g.punto into too which all look smart.

from me

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

I got both because they really are two completely different experiences and I switch between them depending on the mood I'm in. FM2 is more relaxing and I play it when I have loads of time on my hands. CMD is something that requires a lot more concentration so I have to be up for that game, particularly when using the mad trucks and buggie things, both games are pure class

Re: Colin McRae Dirt

At the moment I am just addicted to CMD, I am playing through the entire career mode again, this time on Pro setting and it's made a huge difference to the enjoyment of the game, you can't make a single mistake, it forces you to learn each track like the back of your hand and keeps you on edge all the way through the stages, very hard but great all the same, extremely satisfying when you get to the end of a stage with a tenth of a second over your nearest rival
