Squealling noise from the fiorino

When i am driving, i have a bad squealing noise coming from the front of the van. It goes away when i press the clutch pedal, and come back once i have released the pedal. The strange thing is that it sometimes disappears after 20 minutes of driving, and other times i still have a slight squealing even when i have the clutch in . Can anybody tell me what this might be (please dont say 'whole new clutch'). Many thanks

Yeah mine EATS fanbelts! i swear i have to replace it at least once a month with a few re-tightens inbetween. Its a joke! Also the van won't charge on a fanbelt thats a) too slack or b) too tight (a and it wont turn the alternator fast enough and b it slips too much).

Only real problem i have with mine though.

Re: Squealling noise from the fiorino

You have to take a look at the alternator pulley wheel as it may not be original spec, then if you get a Fiorino fanbelt according to the manual it may not be correct, I discovered this after I had the alternator renewed & I noticed a different width to the pulley to that which was on the vehicle, if its a fraction too narrow then the oversized belt starts to jam & grips too hard & starts to strip itself bit by bit

Re: Squealling noise from the fiorino

Mine was squealing for weeks, too busy to even look at its state, then it snapped 19 miles from home, luckily the RAC were there within an hour, the guy had a right game loosening the alternator, he said, 'jesus, theres a 13mm a 17mm and 19mm bolts on this'

He put on a temp so I wasnt billed, I now carry two spare belts in the van.

Re: Squealling noise from the fiorino

I had just had a recon alternator fitted & two days later I was driving along & there was a bang & clattering noise -the engine stalled so i shoved in the clutch & coasted off the road.
I looked at the fanbelt & it was intact but 100 times worse - it was the cambelt.
I had an estimate of £900 to take off the head & renew all the damaged valves etc. so its gone to the scrapyardas the van was worth very little & rusting everywhere I couldn't justify the expence.

Re: Squealling noise from the fiorino

You should replace the cambelt every 80.000KM or 50.000mls, together with the bearings.

Re: Squealling noise from the fiorino

Mine devours fanbelts in 6000miles, and yes i have checked alignment and all that kind of stuff. This seems to be a problem with the fiorino. I wonder if the belts listed by the motor factors are the correct v shape on the driven sides compared to the pullies meaning that it doesnt sit with full contact resulting in accelerated wear?? R.
