General Calling all fiorino owners.

I have a '93 Pick-Up 1,7 D, never have any load/cargo in the car, just myself, use it to drive to and from work., 60 mls. roundtrip, every day.
I run 185/55r14H tires on 5 spoke alloys, and I have a (smaller than original size) wooden steeringwheel in it.
Front pressure 2,5 bar
Rear pressure 2,4 bar.
Go to www.houddespanningerin.nl click on the UK flag, and find the pressures for your car, it's no problem to add about 0,1- 0,2 bar more though...!
( if the Fiorino doesn't show, you can use the pressures for the fiat Uno...!)

Hi, used to own a turquoise petrol Fiorino in the mid 80's, have a new black diesel auto Fiorino on order (due in next few weeks hopefully).

I have one of the disabled conversions. 1998 R reg 1.7TD, with 75k miles on it. Got it in September, so far so good, but waiting for Tony. (F.I.A.T)!

@ Tricky: very reliable car, ( almost) no electronics, very sturdy Diesel engine.
Just be carefull with the ( Lucas) turbo, use a good quality engine oil ( which does lube the high spinning turbo as well!), change it regularly, at least every 5000mls together with a good oilfilter, be carefull when the engine is cold, don't rev it the first 5-10 mls, depending on outside temps.
After a longer ( highway) run, let it idle to cool down ( the turbo) for 1-2 minutes, before shutting of.
And..... watch for rust!!!!
Is the car rustfree now, consider a good, professional anti rust treatment, it will ad many years to your car!!!

Thanks for the info,

The bottom of the doors have gone and the rear doors edges too. The main things are the mechanics, the oil it seems is now a must, I think it has done about 18 months without an oil change, and about 10,000 miles! So it is a def change oil filter and oil. If I change every 5,000 miles it will be every 2 months on current mileage! If I use synthetic would it be more reasonable to look at between 10-12k between changes?
The cruising speed is a bit of a pain, at 60mph as at 70 it is deafening!

5000mls is FIAT recommendation, anything else is your own responsibility.
I wouldn't go any further than 6000 mls intervals, no matter if you use Dino or synthetic ( btw I have to change it 3X a year, I use Castrol Magnatec Diesel 10W40).
As for the noise, is the sound deadening mat under the hood there?
The gear change mechanism must be play free as well, it can make a lot of noise too!!
Furthermore, the tyres can make lots of noise as well, try to rotate them front-rear, maybe this helps.

Hi,Still a couple here in Ireland...
Mines a 95 1.7 Diesel that has gone round the clock and is now at 9500miles.....
Just replaced the complete timing belt kit....But starter motor beginning to wear out.....Worst thing here is keeping on top of the rust as I live by the sea.....

Hi,I have already tried auto electrical companies here and as soon as I say Fiorino they scratch their heads and say it is not listed...
I have Emailed Fiat and Bosch to see what other Vans used this starter motor to broaden my search....
I have had no reply from either which is why I posted on this Forum.....Any thoughts on this would be appreciated...(y)

Well it's either a Bosch or a Marelli startermotor, both can be replaced by a (remanufactured) Bosch one.
If it's a Bosch now, the Bosch part nr. will be on the housing!
Again, it's a common starter, nothing rare or special, so try somewere else with more knowledge...!!

Hi,The problem is the made in Brazil model has a few parts slightly different...Certain parts I have ordered online have had to be returned because they were following Italian part numbers....So I am looking for confirmation so as I get the right starter motor as it is a heavy bit of kit to post back....(y)

Which of the two brands is fitted now?
Again, if it's a Bosch starter, the part number will be on the housing, and any workshop can get it, no matter the car was build in Brazil....
Another option: have the existing starter remanufactured at a good workshop, using new parts!
P.s. my starter motor is making funny noises since I bought the car back in 2001....I took it of once, and greased it, didn't help, but it's still working fine ( 260.000km's..!!).

Hello everyone,
I'm new around here, so i thought i'd introduce my specimen as the first thing.

Here is my Fiorino, a MK1 but a bit special since it's electric.

Some pictures from when i got it home.

Although the high roof MK I isn't the sleekest of machines it is kinda cute IMHO.

Had help cleaning:)

Engine compartment.

In front of the heater lives the controller, it's a 4-quadrant type, meaning it has regeneration even when braking in reverse. Probably made by ZAPI in Italy.

Here is where the batteries go. 350kg worth of lead... Leaving about 125kg for "payload".

I've had it sitting indoors for 5 years now. But did manage to testdrive it with a full load of batteries in about the condition you see it here.
It will smoke tires in second gear  (and probably ruin the driveshafts too)

All the best.

Yeh sound Van....
Have you thought about solar Photo-voltaic panels on the roof as a top up?
Could fit a couple of 80 watt panels on easy.....:slayer:

Hello again,
and thanks for the welcome.

I am almost sure the FIAT was a factory conversion or that FIAT has been involved, since it has a unique type number. In fact I believe there were four made. It was owned by the electricity supplier NESA (long gone and merged with other energy suppliers).
They were probably mostly used for shows and exhibitions, since it is utterly impractical, with only 125 kg carrying capacity. I remember seing one back in 1980 and wanting it. Five years ago i saw this one advertised and jumped at it immediately.
I had been sitting outside covered with vegetation for years and is, as you can see, in a sorry state.
But hey, FIAT 127s are easy to restore. Just about all body panels can be bought, suspension parts are dirt cheap and a lot of sound Fiorono MK.Is are still running in Italy.

After we have Wifey's Berlingo Electrique up and running (this summer) the Fiorino gets taken apart for a complete restauration. It's been 20 years since I worked on a 127 last, so i am really looking forward to it. Besides, someone has to preserve it.

With a change to lithium batteries the weight will drop so much the car will actually be useful. And performance will improve.
As it is now the peak output is around 50HP. With lithium I expect to double or tripple that. The motor is capable of 100HP for 20 seconds according to the manufactorer. That should do in a 127 (y)

@Stuart: It will have solar panels, but they wont add much power, really. What they will do is to keep the batteries from loosing charge if it's parked for weeks.

@Izzy: I'll remember that when I taunt the Prius owners  Afterall one of the most satisfying grins is the EV-grin. Adding a bit of scorn should only improve it.

Compared to Wifey's silky smooth electric Citroen the FIAT is a crude attempt at an EV. But I love it's power, which puts my long gone Autobianchi A112 Abarth to shame.

All the best,
Henrik

hi 1.7d pick up truck. Got it off ebay £400 M reg with 65,000miles. Have to say it the best vehicle I have owned (well next to my BMW 325i cab 1990) cheers chris.

I have a 1998 Fiorino pick up 1.7D. I paid £200 for it over 2 years ago, it just goes and goes. If it packed in i would be very sad indeed, it is without doubt the best vehicle i have owned in terms of purpose and originality! Undergoing a rolling superficial body resto at the moment but still sound in the structural areas.
