Here by way of a snapped chain. Purchased the van in a 'trade' sale last Thursday and knew it had an engine fault, but wasn't expecting this.
Soon as I started it I guessed the cam chain tensioner was loose or adrift but things went downhill 40 miles onto the M1 heading from Cambridge to Southampton.
Having spent an hour on the hard shoulder at Hatfield I had it transported home to Southampton. No good arguing the case with the sellers, I need the van for work Monday so its sat out back with the timing case, rocker, sump and ancillaries removed.

Parts arriving over the next two days including a genuine Fiat cam chain kit, new oil pump/timing case, new sump, rocker gasket, 16 new rocker arms (broke 3) and a timing tool kit.

Luckily I recently spent 6 months reconditioning diesel plant engines so I have a little experience and the tool chest to see me through, although I'm no mechanic.

Looking forward to this now. There's something about driving a vehicle who's engine you've played surgery on.

Hi Budgie Smuggler, Welcome to the forum.....talk about jumping in at the deep end !!!
Good luck with the work, let us all know how you get on.
Normal reason for cam-chain failure on these is either cheap oil, or simple lack of oil changes......need the correct grade oil, every year at least, or more often if high mileage.
Cheers Qube O.

Thanks Qube O.

It was the cam chain guide which came loose. One bolt in the sump and the the other in place by and a half hand turns.

I'll add some pictures when my post count reaches 5.

Also ordered some Millers oil to Fiat spec, enough two make two oil changes before Monday.

Had trouble finding the crank pin hole in the flywheel housing. On this one its on the front of the bell housing next to the crank sender, a window type slot.

Waiting on oil and new sump to arrive today and fingers crossed good to go.
