Technical Stop Start Not Working

Well now, I'm well pleased that you have it fixed, and pleased that my original suggestion that it was the battery was half right, hope all goes well for you now.......
Cheers Qube O.

From new the stop start on our Fiat panda cross (2015) did not work consistently, we took it to our nearest Fiat dealer (not the supplying dealer) under warranty and the missus was told it was power related ie if air con was on, radio, wipers etc they also said it was a temperamental, how much fuel in tank, outside temp blah blah. We gave up on it but we should have persisted ie we have paid extra for it and we want it working. Recently the clock showed up a warning triangle and the stop start button illuminated and message stop start unavailable... really?! Original Battery is good and terminal connections good.

I think it may be a bosch system judging by the stop start sensor fitted to the negative pole on the battery. I think we can live without it. It is a wee bit irritating though.

When you install a new battery do you need to update the ecu? I know you need to do this on some stop/start vehicles. Asking as I think my battery will need replacing soon as it went flat after no use for a few days.

Sorry not sure on that, my Qubo is pre stop/start, so changing the battery is simples......no doubt one of the members who's Qubo/Fiorino is newer will advise. Cheers Qube O.

We have stop start which has had periods of on and off working for the last 80,000 miles. Most often working these days, which reminds me to turn it off using the button so provided. Anyway replaced the battery myself about 2 years ago with a standard non stop start Excide one (I think) , simply took off the old, fitted the new, no worries. Everything about my professional engineering experience tells me that unless you are a true city driver hitting the stop start every 300 yards a proper 'stop start' battery is a simple way to extract more cash from the consumer.

You fitted a lead acid..and s-s is still working fine..?

Legend has it that the sensor on the battery terminal is what gauges battery cindition..and regulates s-s activity

Supposedly removing and refitting the sensor can make the system reset..

Not bothered myself.. my s-s tailed off over 4 years.. only working after a long run.

Ive not even considered changing the now 8 year old battery.

Car still behaves faultlessly.

In my Fiat the legend is wrong. A garage won't dissuade you if they sell batteries.... There are reasonable reasons why you might want thicker plates and current capacity in a battery expected to provide frequent start current. This is much achieved by fitting a battery with better cold cranking amps than you otherwise might. Also a higher charge current might help. The designer will have to account for worst case thermal conditions not often met in the UK, and I certainly don't do much congested or interrupted driving. There is no hidden intelligence in the battery itself.
Also they need better aftermarket revenue...
